From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 300

Daniel Gill shook his head. “Someone tampered with the video and swapped it for those photos. There aren’t any security cameras here, so we haven’t figured out who did it yet.”

“With all these people around, how could nobody notice a thing?”

Lavinia Bennett’s face was flushed with anger, her hands balled into tight fists. A sharp, dangerous glint flashed in her eyes.

God help whoever did this if she ever found out. Pull a stunt like this at her own wedding? She’d make sure they regretted it for the rest of their life.

Daniel sighed. “We need to look into this more carefully. But hanging around here won’t help. Let’s head back.”

Lavinia felt a wave of frustration, helplessness washing over her. She looked up at him, her eyes pleading. “You have no idea how awful I feel right now.”

Daniel paused, his voice softening. “At least the ceremony is done. Try to focus on the good, okay?”

She scoffed. “That’s easy for you to say.”

Sure, the ceremony was over, but it was hardly the perfect ending she’d hoped for. Instead, she’d have to remember her wedding day as the day everything went horribly wrong.

Daniel reached out his hand. “Mom’s probably feeling even worse right now. Go check on her for a bit, then we’ll head home.”

Lavinia glanced at him, a note of irritation in her voice. “How come you’re not upset at all?”

He’d been cool as a cucumber since the chaos started—never even frowned, like the whole disaster didn’t even matter to him.

Truth was, Daniel didn’t care much for weddings. But he’d already prepared his answer. He said, “Your parents and you are already upset. If I fall apart too, who’s going to clean up the mess? What matters now is finding out who did this.”

“If someone managed to swap those photos and show them at our wedding, it wasn’t a random prank. They planned this, and they’re out to get us. If we just sit around feeling sorry for ourselves, we’re playing right into their hands.”

“If you weren’t happy with the wedding, we can always throw another one someday. But if the Bennetts lose everything, it won’t matter how many weddings you want—you’ll lose even the life you have now.”
