From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 324

The car rolled to a stop at the red light.

Evan Dale glanced over his shoulder at Ethan Carter, who was slumped back in his seat, letting the cold winter air whip across his face. His fists were clenched tight on his knees, muscles and veins bulging along his arms and forehead.

“Mr. Carter, you alright?” Evan asked, uncertainty in his voice.

Ethan didn’t open his eyes. He just grunted, the sound strained and uneasy.

There wasn’t much Evan could do. He frowned in concern and turned his attention back to the road.

The light turned green.

Evan gripped the wheel, focused, and eased the car forward.

He barely had time to react. Out of nowhere, a white delivery van barreled out from the left intersection, not even slowing down. It was headed straight for them.

Evan’s heart slammed into his throat. He jerked the steering wheel hard, swerving to avoid the oncoming van.

The car veered off course. To avoid hitting the other vehicles, Evan twisted the wheel again, desperate.

The car shot straight toward the grassy median.

Evan had never faced anything like this before. His hands were slick with sweat on the steering wheel. As the curb loomed closer, only one thought echoed in his head.

Brake!

He stomped down with all his strength.

But—

BANG!

The impact was deafening.

Evan’s head snapped forward, his ears ringing, vision swimming with a burst of white.

——

The Carter Family Home.

Olivia Bennett had just finished weaving a friendship bracelet for Ethan when she settled onto the couch, bored, and decided to make a red one for herself.

She was tying off the last little knot when the baby inside her gave a hard, sudden kick—much stronger than usual.
