Beatty still shook her head.

Adelina Lane watched her, then said gently, “Beatty, you just don’t want to trouble Olivia, is that it?”

Beatty glanced at Olivia Bennett, then back at Adelina and nodded. “Damian said Olivia just had the baby, and she’s really tired. She needs to rest. I shouldn’t bother her or make any noise.”

Olivia’s eyes softened. She reached out and took Beatty’s hand. “It’s okay, honey. If I can’t braid your hair for you now, I promise I’ll do it once I’m feeling better.”

Beatty looked at her, clearly thinking it over. After a moment, she nodded. “We’ll do it later.”

The way she said it—so serious—was just like Damian Franklin.

Olivia and Adelina both burst out laughing.

Beatty frowned, confused about what they were laughing at, but when she caught their eyes she couldn’t help but smile too.

Adelina’s gaze slipped to the friendship bracelet on Olivia’s wrist, and she suddenly pictured Ethan Carter’s face, which made her laugh all over again. “You should’ve seen Ethan downstairs.”

Olivia blinked. “What did he do?”

Adelina grinned. “He practically waved his arm in our faces, showing off the bracelet.”

Realization dawned on Olivia, and her cheeks flushed pink.

Adelina didn’t tease her any further, just admired, “But really, it’s gorgeous. I could never make something like that.”

“I just followed a YouTube tutorial,” Olivia admitted.

“Okay, enough about that.” Adelina changed the subject. “Ethan mentioned you two picked a name for the baby—Benita Carter.”

“Yeah, that was his idea.”
