From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 32

Remy’s words hit me like a punch to the gut. I was shaking all over, so furious I could barely breathe. Part of me wanted to rip open his chest and see just how black his heart really was.

How could someone who always played the part of a perfect gentleman say something so ruthless? After six years together, this is what it comes down to—he thinks the only reason our relationship fell apart is because he never slept with me.

Has he ever understood me at all? What destroyed us wasn’t sex. It was the lies, the secrets, the betrayal.

I guess you never really know someone until you see the ugliest corners of their soul. That’s when the mask finally drops.

Remy says he loves me, but his body’s with Julia. His heart? That’s hers, too. He wants everything, and everyone. If that’s not proof he’s selfish and fake, I don’t know what is.

I must be the world’s biggest fool for loving him all these years.

I hate him. I can’t stand the sight of him. I need to get away.

“I can’t believe I never saw how shameless you could be. Go ahead, keep your precious virtue, and take it straight to hell with Julia. Remy, I’m divorcing you. You don’t want to talk? Fine. I’ll go to court myself.”

Remy just laughed, loud and cocky, the sound echoing in the parking lot. He clapped me on the shoulder, but his eyes were pure ice. “Still the same innocent Avery. I’ve got things to do, so listen up. I’m only going to say this once. I don’t care if it’s a settlement or a lawsuit—I won’t agree to a divorce. As long as I say no, it’s not happening. You know I have the power here. Go home, rest up. I’m leaving.”

He got in his car and drove off.

I watched his taillights vanish into the sea of traffic, and my heart felt like it was sinking into a frozen lake.

It was like he’d turned into a stranger overnight. No, not just a stranger—a monster, cold and dangerous, someone who could swallow me whole and leave nothing behind.

Remy’s at the top of the food chain in Georgia Bay now. Nobody’s going to risk crossing Mr. Thompson for someone like me.
