“Boss, I’m not the other woman.”
Elliot paused for just a beat, then let out a low, magnetic laugh that caught me off guard with how good it sounded. “Yeah. I believe you.”
For a long time, I thought that after my mom passed, there wouldn’t be anyone left to stand up for me. When everything blew up, Remy was only worried about his company. He never once asked how I was or considered that this whole mess started because of him.
The way Elliot stood by me, trusting me without hesitation, almost cracked something inside me.
Remy’s so-called love? It weighed less than a feather when it came down to real life.
Businessmen always put profit first. That’s just how it is.
Elliot—at least for now—was the exception.
Julia hadn’t come out and said Remy worked for Thompson Corporation, but the internet is relentless. After a bit of digging, people pieced it together fast. Suddenly, Remy was exposed as the jerk who dumped his long-term girlfriend for a side piece.
Thompson Corporation’s website was under siege. Some furious fans deleted every game the company had ever made and got other gamers to join in, swearing off all their products for good.
The stock price tanked. Within thirty minutes of the market opening, it had already hit bottom. It was a disaster.
I’m not clueless. I knew exactly what Julia was after.
Remy kicked her out, but she didn’t blame him. She blamed me.
The only thing she didn’t expect was for a single video to blow up like this and hit Thompson Corporation so hard. The losses were unthinkable.
Remy never imagined Julia would actually go through with something like this. He was livid, his face pale, eyes icy cold. He gritted his teeth as he snapped into the phone, “Start crisis management now. Contact the platforms and get that video down. I want this trending topic gone in thirty minutes. Find Claire and bring her here!”
When the call ended, he sat out on the balcony, chain-smoking. You could tell from his hunched shoulders just how angry he was.
