From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 57

My heart hurt more than anything else—more than any scrape or bruise.

Remy’s always had a bit of anemia, so for five years—the entire time we’d been married—I made him red bean soup every single morning. It was just a small thing, but I thought it mattered. I wanted to take care of him.

Back when we first got married, I didn't know the first thing about cooking. But for Remy, I taught myself. I watched tutorials, called my mom for advice, even asked coworkers for their secret tips. It took me over three months to figure out how to make the soup just right: thick and creamy, with the beans soft and whole, never falling apart. That was exactly how he liked it—sweet, smooth, a little bit sticky.

I’d always been the one to make it for him. Not once did he make it for me. But he made it for Julia.

That’s what really hurt—not just that he cooked for someone else, but that I’d loved him so blindly, for so long.

After my shower, I dried my hair, pulled on my usual work suit, grabbed my bag and jacket, and walked out of the bedroom.

Remy was already back with breakfast. The kitchen was filled with the warm, familiar smell of red bean soup.

I used to love that scent. Now it just made me feel sick.

“Come on, babe,” Remy called out. “The soup’s ready—I poured you a bowl. It’s still hot. Want me to cool it down for you?”

That mouth. The same mouth that had kissed Julia—God knows where else he’d touched her. The thought of him blowing on my soup made my skin crawl. I couldn’t even stand breathing the same air as him right now, let alone let him fuss over me like everything was fine.

I’d rather gag.
