Caroline grinned at him, flashing a big smile. “Lend me a hand, will you? I’ll owe you one.”
Tyler looked at her smile and suddenly had a bad feeling.
Still, without hesitation, he nodded.
Meanwhile, Patricia’s men had spent about half an hour digging Jonathan’s frozen body out of the ice.
His corpse was stiff, preserved perfectly by the freezing cold. There was no decay–only the damage from his fall.
Few who jumped ever looked peaceful. Jonathan was no exception. He was practically unrecognizable.
Patricia didn’t care. She gathered his icy body into her arms and wept for a long time before telling her men to wrap him in a large black bag. They’d deal with the rest later.
When everything was done, Patricia narrowed her eyes and glared at the tall building in front of her. Her expression turned cold and fierce. Then she started marching toward it.
Everyone inside the building was watching.
Erica panicked and told her husband to lock the door. “No matter what happens,” she whispered, “don’t open it.”
But within minutes, their door was kicked open with a crash.
Gaylord Dittman, the captain of Patricia’s men, grabbed a young man who had been peeking down the stairwell and tossed him into Erica’s apartment.
Erica recognized him. That young man was one of the few survivors left in the building.
A thin, not–so–bright guy from upstairs.
He’d probably been curious and tried to see what was going on. Unfortunately for him, Gaylord caught him.
Gaylord turned to Erica and her husband, both trembling in fear. He pulled out his aimed it at Erica’s head. “I heard you’re in charge of this building?”

She had only helped organize a few things before; she was never really in charge.
But she didn’t dare deny it now. She nodded quickly, trembling all over.
“You know Jonathan?” Gaylord asked.

“I–I know him,” Erica stammered. “He used to live on the 5th floor. Then he moved to the 48th floor with his girlfriend. They’ve been together ever since.”
Patricia’s voice cut through the air, cold as ice.
“So it’s that tramp who got him killed, isn’t it?”
“I–I don’t know!” Erica cried. “Jonathan died two days ago. I don’t know if he jumped himself or if someone pushed him. I swear I don’t know anything!”
Erica was on the verge of tears, trembling under the threat of the dark gun barrel pointed at her.
Patricia didn’t buy it. “You’d better tell me everything you know–about him, about this whole building. Every little thing.”
Before Erica could answer, one of the men kicked her hard in the side. She fell to the floor and crawled to her husband.
Charlie rushed forward and pulled Erica into his arms after seeing her get hit.
Somehow, he found the courage to shout at Patricia, his voice trembling with anger. “If you want revenge, go after the right people! Jonathan’s death has nothing to do with us. If you want justice, look on the 66th floor! From what I know, Jonathan had a grudge against a woman named Caroline up there! And I also heard him mention a man named Tyler. I’m sure they had something to do with it!”
The moment Patricia heard the name Caroline, her mind exploded like thunder.
“Caroline … She’s in this building too?” she hissed.
She still remembered the last time she’d seen Caroline.
The girl who had once seemed quiet and obedient now looked like a wolf that might bite.
And Tyler?
Could it be her husband’s son?

Each one screamed the same thing: Jonathan’s death had something to do with Caroline and Tyler.
Erica saw the change in Patricia’s face. She knew something was wrong and forced herself to speak up.
