“Well, Patricia,” Caroline said with a fake smile. “Long time no see. Still strong enough to yell, I
see.”
“Caroline, you-”
Before Patricia could finish, several guns turned toward Caroline.
She didn’t flinch. Her gaze swept across the men, stopping on Gaylord, who seemed to be their leader. “Easy there, gentlemen,” she said calmly. “If I flinch, your boss might end up with a hole in her head.”
Gaylord glared at her, teeth clenched. He couldn’t believe this woman was still so fearless in a situation like this.
“I came here for answers,” Patricia snapped. “I want to know how Jonathan died!”
Her tone softened slightly, less like a threat now, more like a demand for justice.
Caroline tilted her head. “You want answers? I actually have them. But why should I tell you? Jonathan betrayed me. I’m glad he’s dead. And remind me–what do I owe your family? Why should I hand you the truth so you can get revenge? What’s in it for me?”
Patricia’s face tightened. Her gaze shifted to the man beside Caroline. “Caroline, I didn’t expect this from you. The daughter of the Sinclairs, lowering herself to be with one of my husband’s illegitimate sons.”
At the word “illegitimate,” Tyler’s eyes narrowed, but he did nothing.
Caroline stared at Patricia with a hard look. “Patricia, I thought you were smarter than this. Trying to rile us now–how would that help you? Right now, I’m the only one in this building who knows how Jonathan died. I’ve got proof. And if you wait much longer, you might miss your chance for revenge–because the people you want to punish are packing to leave.”
Patricia glared at Caroline, full of hate.
“Give me one of your modified trucks and everything inside. I’ll tell you exactly how Jonathan died. You’ll get the proof too. Deal?”
Caroline shot Patricia a wicked look.

Patricia hesitated, then finally nodded. “Fine.”

On the other side of the building, Reese had already realized Patricia was here and that she’d gone up to the 66th floor.
Right now, Reese and John were frantically packing their things, ready to run.
“John, we have to go while they’re still upstairs! They’ve got guns!” She whispered, clutching his arm tightly.
They’d talked it over just minutes ago. Patricia had gone to confront Caroline, but there hadn’t been a single gunshot since. That could only mean one thing–Caroline was still alive.
And if Caroline was alive, she could expose everything they had done.
They stuffed food, water, and clothes into two large backpacks, slung them over their shoulders, and rushed out.
But as soon as they made it down two floors, they heard footsteps pounding above. Patricia’s furious scream echoed through the stairwell. “Reese, you snake! Jonathan loved you so much! Sob, sob, sob! I’ll kill you–I’ll tear you apart!”
Reese went pale.
She and John bolted down the stairs as fast as they could.
Meanwhile, Gaylord and his men stormed into Reese’s floor. They smashed the door open, only to find the room half–empty and the bed stripped bare.
Then Patricia saw the blood splattered across the bedroom wall. The sight made her knees buckle. Her frail body almost gave out.
“Find them!” she shouted, slamming her fists against the floor. “Find those two bastards and bring them back to me!”
Gaylord grabbed his gun and led his men down the stairs to chase them.
Patricia clutched something tightly in her hand–a voice recorder,
It was the one Caroline had given her.
Tears streamed down her face as she pressed play.
