Chapter 179 The Cry for Help
Chapter 179 The Cry for Help
Caroline looked at Tyler and noticed he was smirking.
“Ms. Sinclair, don’t you think you’re being a little greedy?”
Caroline smiled. “I’ll grow two plants for you.”
Tyler didn’t say anything and just kept looking at her.
Is he thinking that two isn’t enough?
“I said, I’ll give you some every time!”
Caroline rolled her eyes.
“Sounds good. Even family keeps things fair.”
Tyler looked satisfied, smiling like he had gotten a good deal.
Caroline was already planning to give him two anyway. What if he got constipated from eating too few veggies? After all, eating spicy food all the time couldn’t be good for anyone!
After Tyler left, Caroline brought the hydroponic equipment into her room and placed it near the stove in the living room.
It was also close to the balcony, so it would get sunlight.
Still, Caroline took a grow light out of her storage space.
She planted the mutant vegetable seeds the military had sent.
Then, Caroline took out a bunch of other seeds from her storage space.
There were flower seeds, vegetable seeds, and grains.
She
put all of them into the hydroponic equipment and poured in some acid rain.
She knew mutant plants would be harder to grow–they often couldn’t survive acid rain and would just die.
So, she used a “massive planting strategy, throwing in hundreds of seeds, hoping at least a few would sprout.

Chapter 179 The Cry for Help
Watching small bubbles form in the water as the seeds settled, Caroline felt a flicker of hope maybe some would survive and bring a little more life to her storage space.
At that moment, she heard a voice on the walkie–talkie.
The walkie talkie was still on the 64th floor. It was still there since it wasn’t bedtime yet.
Plus, after Caroline had shown her authority earlier, no one dared to come up and cause
trouble.
But now, a child’s voice came through, “Someone, please… Please help me.”
The voice was weak and childish, with a hint of crying, making Caroline’s heart ache.
But her brows furrowed. What now? When force doesn’t work, they send someone to tug at my heartstrings!
Caroline didn’t want to respond, but after about two minutes, the boy’s cries grew louder, shouting for his mom.
It was painful to hear and made Caroline angry.
In her previous life, she had seen people use children to gain sympathy,
Most of the time, those kids ended up as cannon fodder.
Now, she guessed the person below was trying the same trick.
She didn’t want to be kind. If she helped once, people would come again.
She even turned off the walkie–talkie, trying to cut off their hope.
But after a while, the child’s cries grew louder and more desperate, almost tearing her heart apart.
Even with the walkie–talkie off, Caroline could faintly hear them from downstairs.
She heard a door open across from her.
Caroline took a deep breath, grabbed her knife, and went down with Tyler.
Tyler looked pissed, his hair sticking up like he’d been woken up from sleep.
When they reached the 64th floor, Caroline hadn’t said anything yet. Tyler opened the door, raising a gun. “You woke me up? Huh?”
He pointed at a woman outside holding a child.
