Chapter 189 Jasper’s Tricks

The moment the cat treat appeared, Jasper shot up like a rocket.

Two thin lines of drool hung from the corners of his mouth as his mismatched eyes gleamed, locked tightly on the treat in Caroline’s hand.

What surprised her even more was that Raven, who had been lying lazily nearby, suddenly sat up too. He did not even try to bully Jasper this time, just stared at the treat like it was the most precious thing in the world.

Caroline blinked. “Seriously? Is this thing that good?”

She glanced down at the package, which boldly claimed, “90% real meat! Irresistibly delicious!”

Curious, she tore one open. Instantly, both Jasper and Raven’s eyes followed her hand like synchronized spotlights.

She opened another, one for each of them, and held them out.

The two started licking at the treats, but their eyes stayed glued to each other, as if locked in battle.

The more one licked, the faster the other went–each determined not to lose a single bite.

Naturally, Raven finished first–big mouth advantage.

Jasper, realizing he was falling behind, switched tactics and started biting the treat like a maniac. He was practically inhaling it.

Meanwhile, Raven was inching closer and closer, eyeing the leftovers.

Caroline could practically see the fire of determination burning in Jasper’s eyes. It practically screamed, “Not giving this mutt a single crumb!”

She could not stop laughing.

Just as Raven’s huge head was about to nudge in, she gently pushed him back. “Alright, alright. I’ll give you another one later.”

But Jasper, having just finished his own, puffed up indignantly. “Hey! I want another too!” And that was how one cat and one dog each ended up devouring two packs of cat treats.

After feeding them, Caroline watched Jasper sit down comfortably, licking his paws in

contentment.

The only problem? His back was still covered in pine needles, which twitched with every lick. Honestly, it looked kind of funny.

“Come here, Jasper. Let me take those needles out and check if you’re hurt,” Caroline called.

But before she could even move closer, Jasper did a little spin in the air, and in the blink of an eye, all the needles vanished!

Caroline’s eyes widened. The pine needles had not fallen off; they had been absorbed into his body.

Then it hit her. Jasper could absorb the corpses of mutant animals. So those mutant plant parts…

“Hehe, delicious!”

Jasper licked his pink tongue over his lips, looking way too pleased.

Caroline froze. So was that whole act earlier just to trick her into giving him treats?

“Jasper!” she yelled furiously.

Raven seemed to catch on too. He lunged forward, ready to pounce and settle all their old and new grudges.

But Jasper was prepared. With one swift leap, he darted onto the roof.

From above, he strutted smugly, tail swaying, “Next time you throw mutant plants in here, remember to plant them yourself! Otherwise, I’ll be charging interest! Hehehe!”

Still, Caroline noticed something important. Jasper could not actually take things freely from the space.

Only items that the space itself absorbed for energy were beyond his reach.
