After a long, exhausting day, Caroline quickly drifted off to sleep.

She was not sure when it happened, but suddenly a damp nose nudged her awake.

Blinking her eyes open, she saw Raven under the moonlight streaming through the window–its gaze sharp and alert, almost cutting.
That look jolted Caroline fully awake.
Then she heard it too–the faint sound of someone fiddling with the lock on her front door.
She slipped on a jacket and tiptoed toward the entrance, Raven right at her side.
Even he lifted his paws carefully, making no sound at all.
Outside, the intruder cursed under his breath, grumbling about how sturdy the door was and how it would not budge.
Caroline immediately thought of that sneering construction worker from earlier in the day–clearly, she had been targeted.
When the key failed, the man started trying to pry the lock open.
However, Caroline had installed a top–grade door, modified for extra security, and he could not make progress.
Raven bared its teeth, poised to pounce the moment the door gave way.
Caroline raised a finger to her lips, signaling him to stay quiet, and slipped into the next room to call the police.
But to her surprise, when the man outside realized he could not force the lock, he went quiet.
Just as Caroline thought he had given up and left, she heard the sound again–this time, as if he had switched to a new tool and was still working on the lock.
A few sharp clicks later, the first lock gave way. Her heart sank.
Who was this guy, and how could he break through so easily? He was clearly no amateur.
The second lock followed soon after, and as the man slipped silently inside, Raven lunged.
In one swift move, he had the intruder pinned flat on the floor.
Caroline flicked on the lights with a sharp click.
Sure enough, it was the same burly worker who had glared at her before.
Raven showed no mercy, keeping him down with brute strength until the police arrived.
Turned out the man was a wanted criminal, and catching him came with a 200,000 dollar reward.
The officer gave Caroline a wry smile. “Can’t tell if you’re lucky or unlucky, miss.”
The man spat out venomous words, glaring up at her. “Didn’t expect your dog to be this good. Fine, I’ll take the loss tonight- but you better hope I don’t get out!”
Caroline frowned. Why did he harbor such hostility toward her?
Later, she learned from the police that he was a murderer who had been on the run for years.
With this arrest, he was facing life behind bars.
Caroline wiped cold sweat from her forehead but let out a cold snort.
A man like him, living off crime, falling into the hands of someone reborn like her–serves him right.

She bent down and patted Raven’s head. It was the real hero tonight.
After the police left, Caroline found it hard to fall asleep again.
She immediately messaged the security door company, asking for further reinforcement.
To her surprise, they were still awake and sent her several upgrade plans on the spot.
