Chapter 22 Reese’s Plan
Chapter 22 Reese’s Plan
After wrapping things up, Caroline headed home, ready to finally rest a little.
What she did not expect was that Reese actually had the nerve to come looking for her.
About ten days after she had fallen out with Jonathan, Reese suddenly called Caroline from an unknown number.

Of course, it was unknown–Caroline had long since blocked both Reese and Jonathan, those two shameless cheaters.
On top of that, she had moved, so neither of them knew where she lived anymore.
“Caroline, it’s me, Reese. Please don’t hang up,” Reese started out, her voice dripping with pitiful weakness.
That tone–ugh. It made Caroline’s skin crawl, and she could not stop cursing her past self. How could she have ever been fooled by this two–faced bitch?
“Talk. I’m busy,” Caroline said flatly.
In truth, she was just brushing Raven’s fur.
After spending so much time together, Raven trusted her completely and loved being groomed by her.
Every time she brushed him, he would flop onto his back, legs spread wide, eyes shut in bliss.
When Caroline’s phone rang, Raven twitched suspiciously, but she gently pushed it back into place before continuing.
“I–I owe you an apology, Caroline, I really did think of you as a friend. I just… I just couldn’t help myself when it came to Jonathan. He was too good. I hope you can forgive me,” Reese said, her voice shaking with fake tears.
Yet, Caroline was not buying it. She let out a cold laugh. “If you’ve got something real to say, say it. Otherwise, I’m hanging up.”
Seriously? Still putting on an act? Did she think Caroline was an idiot?
“Alright, alright! I really do have something serious. I know you hate me, but please don’t hang up. I really am sorry, and I want to make it up to you,” Reese begged.
Caroline almost gagged at her syrupy voice but forced herself to stay calm, burying her hand in Raven’s soft fur for comfort.
“Do you remember Henry Branson from the School of International Relations? The guy who played basketball?” Reese asked.
Of course, Caroline remembered.
In fact, after the world fell apart, she even crossed paths with Henry again.
“I heard he’s back in the country. I remember you used to like him a little, and he kind of liked you too. As a way to make it up to you, I can set you two up. What do you think?” Reese’s voice softened, dripping with false sincerity.
“I know this might sound strange, but I really mean it. I just want to make amends.”
Caroline could not help but laugh.
Reese’s brain really worked in bizarre ways.
But then again, Henry was cut from the same cloth as Reese and Jonathan.
Back in her past life, when Caroline had run into Henry on a mission, she had felt a little thrill at first.
That thrill quickly turned to disgust when he betrayed her.
Later, she learned that Henry and Reese were childhood friends–no surprise there.
In fact, Reese had even had a fling with him once.

Chapter 22 Reese’s Plan
That time, Henry nearly got Caroline killed.
Still, Caroline was curious about why Reese would suddenly bring Henry up now.

“Sure,” Caroline said casually. “Honestly, I do remember Henry pretty well. After everything with Jonathan, I’ve been feeling down. Meeting an old acquaintance might cheer me up.”
She and Reese quickly agreed on a time and place.
Of course, Reese herself would not show.
Caroline had no intention of ever seeing her again.
Reese only needed to arrange things so she and Henry would cross paths.
