Looking at the colorless, tasteless water, Caroline felt it was not convincing enough to pass as a “folk remedy,” so she tossed in some herbs and let them steep for a while until the water turned a faint yellow.

Since the apocalypse had not arrived yet, giving away a so–called folk remedy would not raise much suspicion.

When she came out of the bedroom carrying the huge jug, Niko was stunned.

“This is the remedy you were talking about?”

Caroline nodded with a slightly embarrassed smile. “Well, folk remedies are always a mix of things. I just happened to come across this one by chance. Take it with you and portion it out–I don’t have extra bottles here.”

Niko said they did not need that much.

However, Caroline insisted, speaking seriously, “This remedy is supposed to work even on fresh wounds. You can test it out. If it really helps, your team can just carry a little whenever you’re out on missions.”

Hearing that, Niko thanked her repeatedly. Beside him, Haroldson looked intrigued, even showing off a scar on his arm and saying he wanted to try it when they got back.

Niko laughed and rapped Haroldson on the head. “Don’t waste it on your arm. Some of the guys have scars on their faces that hurt their chances of finding a wife.”

They chatted a little longer about Raven before Niko and Haroldson said it was time to leave.

As they were heading out, Haroldson hugged Raven’s neck and revealed his real story.

Raven had once saved his life.

Back then, Haroldson had been on a mission with Raven.

Because he was inexperienced, he almost died–if not for Raven throwing itself in to protect him.

“Ms. Sinclair, seeing how close Raven is to you, and knowing you’ve healed its wounds, I feel relieved. Please take good care of it! If you ever run into trouble, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.”

Saying that, Haroldson even saluted both Caroline and Raven.

Caroline felt a little embarrassed, so she packed up some homemade snacks for them.

Over the past few days, she had spent plenty of time experimenting with recipes at home–better to learn now than sit idle until the apocalypse came.

Niko took a bite of a pastry and praised her skill, making Caroline blush.

When he finally left, carrying the large barrel of “purified water,” he thanked her again.

Caroline waved with a smile, telling them it was nothing.

But in her heart, she knew why she had given them so much of the spring water from her storage space; it was because it really could heal wounds!

It had restored Raven completely, so there was no doubt this water was extraordinary.

She could not tell Niko about the apocalypse, of course.

If she did, she would never be able to explain it away.

As they were saying goodbye, Niko hesitated, then told Caroline, “Caroline, in the coming days, there might be some extreme weather. Be careful, and stock up on supplies.”

Her brows lifted at that. Clearly, some people in the government had already noticed abnormal weather patterns.

Even so, they probably had not predicted the apocalypse itself. Otherwise, the losses in her previous life would not have been

so severe.

She thanked him and saw the two out.
