Chapter 3 The Military Dog
Chapter 3 The Military Dog
“Don’t worry, he looks scary, but he’s actually really gentle. Just a little stubborn.”
Niko walked Caroline a few steps closer and took the leash from a nearby soldier.
The Doberman didn’t move at all. He just sat quietly.
This is Raven. He’s only six months old.”
“Six months? He’s already this big?”
Caroline’s eyes grew wide in surprise.

Niko nodded and patted Raven’s huge head. “His mom only had one puppy, Raven. He was bigger than the others from the moment he was born. You could say he’s special.”
He laughed, trying to make the moment feel lighter.
“Raven, lie down
Raven obeyed and lay down on the floor. That’s when his long scar along his back showed, over a foot long. His fur hadn’t grown back yet, and the pink skin had a thick scab. It looked a little scary.
“He’s smart and perfect for being a military dog. He started missions when he was just over five months old. In less than two days, he got badly injured while fighting a criminal, so he had to retire.”
Because of the injury, he couldn’t work anymore. Now they needed to find a family to take care of him. Since he’s a hero dog, he wouldn’t be sold at an auction.
Niko sighed and stroked Raven’s head. “This guy saved our whole team.””
After talking for a bit, Caroline decided to adopt Raven. He was only six months old now, so he’ll grow even bigger. He’s smart, obedient, and can help Caroline look tough. Even though he’s injured, Niko said his front right leg might give him problems in the future, especially in the rain or cold.
He’ll need careful care, maybe medicine for life, and expensive yet visits.
But with his future mutation, that won’t matter! His old wounds will heal because of his special self–healing ability.
It was clear Niko loved dogs a lot. After Caroline chose to adopt Raven, he took her to the nearby lounge to talk for an hour.
They discussed what Raven should eat, special care for his injury, and planned a follow–up
visit.
He even asked about Caroline’s family. When he learned she was a student, he didn’t seem very happy.
Im a sensor in college. I don’t have classes now, just my internship. I can totally take care of Raven
After a few more questions, Niko said they still needed to see what Raven thought

Kaven was lying quietly in his cage. When Caroline got close, he barely lifted his eyelids and didn’t react much.
He’s gan a lot going on in his mind, more than most dogs. Sometimes we think he’s almost like a person, Niko said.
He walked over and opened the cage door

Chapter 3 The Military Dog
Even though she loved dogs, she was still a little nervous facing such a huge dog.
Raven didn’t make it easy. He just stared at her, glanced at Niko, and ignored the treat in her hand.

Just when Caroline thought he didn’t like her, he finally lowered his head and gently took the donut from her hand.
At that moment, Caroline felt so happy she almost jumped.
Niko, standing nearby, let out a relieved sigh. “If he hadn’t eaten from your hand today, I wouldn’t have let you adopt him. This dog is picky. He only likes people he chooses.”
Niko didn’t say anything more, which meant he was okay with Caroline adopting him.
He explained that Raven had already refused four other people. Seeing him accept Caroline made everyone feel relaxed,
Caroline looked at the dog and laughed. She couldn’t believe a puppy could be so picky.
After finishing the adoption papers
Caroline brought Raven home.
The soldiers gave her a box of toys, a box of treats, two bags of dog food, and some other supplies to thank Raven for saving lives.
Caroline also went to the pet store to buy a dog bed.
When it came time to buy a dog bed, she brought Raven along.
She pointed at a few beds laid out in the store, hoping Raven might pick one.
Caroline didn’t really expect him to understand.
But Raven looked at her walked to a deep blue bed, put his paw on it, and looked back at her.
That look clearly said, “This one.”
At that moment, Caroline thought to herself, This dog is amazing!
She had three months to get close to Raven. She wasn’t sure if she’d succeed, but she knew one thing.
Dogs are pure–hearted animals, far purer than human.
If you treat them well, they will treat you well!
What Caroline didn’t expect was that when she got home, someone surprising was waiting at her door.
Long legs in skinny jeans, a white, fashionable shirt with the top three buttons open, showing a pale, strong chest. A handsome young man with an anxious look on his face. He said, “Caroline, why did you block my number?”
It was Jonathan
If Caroline remembered correctly, he was supposed to talk to her about their engagement now.
The Lowlands and the Sinclairs had arranged the marriage before Caroline’s grandfather passed away. They even exchanged
tokens.
