His Private Chef (by Amycee) novel Chapter 188

With Lisa here, the house felt fuller. Livelier. She threw herself straight into wedding preparations. Liam finalized his groomsmen, with Kelvin included. My side was rounded out with Sophia, Lisa, and a handful of old friends. The countdown pulsed through every detail, from fabric fittings to lastminute menu tastings and rehearsals.

Still, one thought kept circling in my mind: Who would walk me down the aisle?

My father was gone. My mother, as strong as she was, would drown in memories if I asked her. I wanted her to smile that day, not drown in grief.

So, I made a choice.

One evening, I drove to the Black residence. Henry was home, and I made my way straight to his study. He looked up from his desk when I entered, surprise flickering across his face as he took in

my nerves.

What’s wrong, Emily?he asked, brow furrowing.

Nothing.I said quickly. Then, gathering courage. I came to ask you something important. On my wedding daywill you walk me down the aisle?

His eyes softened instantly. For a moment, he said nothing. Then he rose, pulled me into his arms, and held me close. When he finally spoke, his voice cracked.

Thank you. I always wanted another daughter. But after Laura had complications with Sophia, I knew we couldn’t risk more children. But then you came into our lives, and nowHis hand squeezed my shoulder. Now I have two daughters. You’ve made me the happiest man alive.

Tears blurred my eyes. “So that’s a yes?

That’s a forever yes.

Three nights before the wedding, both sides held their prewedding parties. We’d agreed not to risk hangovers on the big day, so the celebrations happened early and separately.

Our suite in one of Henry’s hotels overflowed with champagne, food, and laughter. Lisa was in her element, Sophia kept the energy alive, and the rest of us buzzed with excitement.

At one point, as everyone leaned in to hear a scandalous story from one of my college friends, I stepped out quietly, craving Liam. The hallway was dim, my footsteps quick and quiet, like a thief sneaking from her own party

Halfway down, I collided with Sophia.

Where do you think you’re going?she demanded.

Same place you’re going,I shot back.

We both burst into laughter, trying to shush each other as we walked toward the men’s suite. But just as we neared, a door opened. Sophia yanked me against the wall, finger pressed to her lips.

We peeked.

Lisa stepped out. Followed by Kelvin.

My jaw dropped. Sophia’s eyes widened before mischief curved her lips.

This never happened,Lisa hissed, spinning toward him.

Kelvin leaned lazily on the doorframe. Except it did.

Her glare sharpened. “A word of this to anyone and I’ll cut your balls off.

He smirked. Those same balls did just fine a few minutes ago.

Kelvin!she snapped, storming away.

He chuckled, trailing after her like a cat stalking prey.

I stood frozen, my brain catching up. Did that just

Sophia cut me off, grinning wickedly. Oh, this wedding is officially perfect now.
