Chapter 190 – The Vows
The night before my wedding, sleep never stood a chance. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Liam’s face waiting at the altar, and the thought made my heart race like I was falling in love for the very first time all over again.
By sunrise, I was still smiling, humming to myself, too happy to stay still, excitement bubbling through me like champagne in my veins.
The makeup artist was just finishing her last touches when Sophia and Lisa walked in. I couldn’t help myself, I was sitting by the window, grinning like a fool at my reflection, my excitement too loud to hide.
Sophia groaned, shaking her head. “I swear, Emily. Most brides wake up with cold feet, and here you are looking like you’ve been running on pure sugar since midnight.”
Lisa dropped onto the bed with a pillow tucked under her arm. “Cold feet? Please. She’s already halfway down the aisle in her head.”
“I grinned. “What did you expect? I’m marrying the love of my life.”
Sophia smirked. “God help Liam. His bride didn’t even need beauty sleep.”
Lisa’s giggles joined mine, filling the suite with joy before the day had even started.
A knock at the door interrupted our banter. A hotel staff member handed me a box and a folded note. I didn’t need to check the handwriting. Liam.
Inside the box lay the diamond set: a necklace, bracelet, and earrings, the very ones he had revealed to me during the girls‘ and boys‘ night, kept safe for this moment. I opened the note, bracing for some long, flowery speech, but instead I found a single line:

Emily, the summary of everything I wanted to write is this: I love you. And today, I am the happiest man alive.
Tears blurred the ink I pressed the letter against my heart, holding it as if it were Liam himself.
Sophia snatched it before I could hide it. “That’s it? That’s the entire letter?”
Lisa peeked over her shoulder, laughing. “All that money and all those brains, and he writes like a twelve–year–old in love. Perfect.”
I shook my head, smiling through tears. “It’s more than enough.”
The door opened again, and my mom stepped in with baby Sophia in her arms, dressed in a tiny white gown, her little necklace sparkling against her soft skin.
My chest tightened, and tears stung my eyes. My daughter looked like a doll made of light.
“Mom…” My voice trembled, thick with emotion.
She smiled, her eyes shining. “I thought you might want her here for this moment.”
”
I reached for my baby, holding her close. She grabbed my necklace with her small fingers, and for a heartbeat it was just the three of us, mother, daughter, granddaughter, bound together in love and history.
Sophia sniffed. Lisa fanned her eyes. I laughed, even as tears fell down my cheeks. “You’re ruining my makeup already.”
Later, when the gown was fitted, the veil pinned, and my bouquet placed in my hands, Henry entered the room. He froze the instant he saw me.
“You look…” His voice thickened with emotion. “You look like everything I ever hoped Sophia would have in a sister. And now I get to walk you down the aisle as my own.”

I blinked back tears and smiled through them. “You’d better not cry, Henry. One of us has to keep it together.”
He chuckled softly: “Then it’s a good thing I’ve had practice,” he murmured, straightening his shoulders. He offered me his arm. “Come on, Emily. Let’s go show the world the bride you were always meant to be.”
The chapel doors opened, and time seemed to pause.
Morning light streamed in, catching on golden chandeliers until the whole room shimmered. White roses blossomed from tall crystal vases, gold ribbons winding through them, and the aisle gleamed beneath a scattering of petals. White and gold surrounded everything, radiant and timeless.
Every guest stood. The music swelled, violins lifting into the air, and for a moment, the world was only light and sound.
Henry’s arm was strong beneath mine as he guided me forward, steady and proud. My veil brushed against my shoulders, the diamond set at my throat catching light from the chandeliers. But none of it compared to what waited at the end of the aisle.
Liam.
He stood tall in his suit, his lips parted, his eyes locked only on me. He looked as though the air had left his lungs and the world had emptied of everyone but us.
Step by step, my heart soared. When Henry joined our hands, everything quieted.
“She’s yours now,” Henry murmured.
Liam’s grip tightened around my hand, his thumb brushing over my skin as if to convince himself I was really there. His lips parted, but no words came, only awe flickering in his eyes. He looked at me like he was trying not to cry and failing, his composure unraveling with every heartbeat.

Behind him, Jay muttered, just loud enough. “Close your mouth, man.”
Laughter rippled softly through the guests, breaking the spell just enough for Liam to grin, shake his head, and finally pull me closer.
The officiant began, words of welcome and blessing, but they drifted past me like soft music. All I could feel was Liam’s hand, tethering me in place.
When it was time for vows, Liam turned fully toward me. His voice cracked under the weight of emotion, then steadied.
“Emily… when
you
first came into my life, I didn’t recognize love for what it was. I was too proud, too careless, too blind. I hurt you in ways that still shame me. And yet, you stayed long enough to teach me what love really is- not perfection, not ease, but choosing each other even when it’s hard.
You’ve seen every side of me, the man who failed you, the man who fought for you, the man who held our daughter and finally understood what forever meant. And through it all, you gave me something I never thought I deserved: another chance.
So this is my vow. To never take that chance for granted. To honor you, protect you, and love you in ways that make up for every tear I caused. To be the man you believe in, the father Sophia looks up to, and the partner who never lets go again.
You are my home, Emily. My miracle. And I will spend the rest of my life proving that the best thing I ever did was love you.”
Tears blurred my vision, but I didn’t look away.
“My turn,” I whispered, smiling through them. “Liam, I used to think love was fragile. Something you could lose if you weren’t careful. But then I met you, and with you, love has been anything but fragile. It’s been fire, storm, ache, and home all at once.
