Lumina wasn’t sure what to say, so she simply lowered her eyes and murmured a quiet “okay.”
By the time they left Xyla’s clinic, dusk had settled in and the temperature had dropped, bringing a chill to the evening air.
Once again, it was Soren who drove Lumina home that night.
When they reached her apartment and made their way upstairs, only Nadia was in the living room, eating clementines and watching TV.
She wore oversized headphones and, as usual, dressed with a hint of rebellion—a strapless top and velvet shorts, legs tucked up on the couch.
Soren paused in the doorway, his expression darkening just a little.
“Nadia.” Lumina called softly, trying to get her attention. But Nadia kept humming along to her music, swinging her legs to the beat.
“Honestly, this girl…” Lumina walked over and draped her own coat over Nadia’s bare shoulders.
Finally, Nadia took off her headphones and glanced over at the two of them, grinning. “Lumina… and our resident flower guy, you’re back.”
Lumina ruffled her hair. “His last name is Royce. Call him Mr. Royce.”
“Oh. Mr. Royce, hello.” Nadia met Soren’s gaze, giving him a half-hearted smirk.
“Now that you’re home, try to get some rest. I’ll head out.” Soren’s eyes flickered away from Nadia’s face as he turned to Lumina, extending his arm just slightly.
Lumina stepped over, gently closing the door behind her. She lowered her head and slipped into the shelter of his broad coat.
He ran his palm down her back, then suddenly tilted her chin up, his gaze lingering on her soft pink lips.
Leaning in, he seemed about to kiss her.
But Lumina instinctively turned her head away, dodging him.
Soren froze, then looked down, smoothing her hair. “Go on inside.”
“Okay. Good night.”
Lumina hurried into her room, pressing a hand to her chest as her heart raced.
Had he really meant to kiss her just now?
