“I didn’t want to drag you into this,” Lumina said with a soft smile. “If Cedric ever finds out, you’d be caught up in it too.”

Yadiel’s calm brows knit together. “I don’t really think that far ahead, and I’m not afraid of him coming after me.”

His words, so resolute and unwavering, warmed Lumina’s heart, though worry still lingered beneath the surface.

Yadiel grew up sheltered, the beloved child of a loving family and a privileged upbringing. He had no real idea of the ruthless power plays and cutthroat deals that ruled the business world. He couldn’t possibly grasp just how merciless Cedric, who had clawed his way to the top, could be.

Even if Yadiel wasn’t afraid for himself, he had parents, relatives, people who mattered. Lumina couldn’t let them be put at risk because of her.

“Thank you, Yadiel.”

Her voice was heavy with thought. “All I need is for you to help me with a fake ultrasound report, and arrange for a trusted doctor and a private room when it’s time. I can handle everything else myself.”

But Yadiel was no fool. He could tell she was trying to shield him.

“You came to me, Lumina. Don’t worry about me getting involved.” He made his stance clear.

Yadiel, Lumina, and Hugo had grown up together since childhood. Yadiel had always been the one to indulge Lumina, even more than Hugo did. Hugo used to joke that Yadiel was spoiling his little sister so much, she’d never be able to marry.

But now, Yadiel’s tone was more serious than ever. “I promised Hugo I’d always protect you. That I’d look after you, no matter what.”

A sharp pang shot through Lumina’s heart. It had been so long since anyone mentioned her brother’s name. Hearing it again, the pain and longing surged back, impossible to hide.

She managed a small smile and nodded. “Alright.”

Yadiel arranged for a trusted, elderly physician to examine her. While the doctor reviewed her chart, Lumina fidgeted with her fingers, voice barely above a whisper. “Doctor, is it… is it safe to, um, be intimate while pregnant? Will it harm the baby?”
