His Untamed Rose novel Chapter 23

Her heart sank. The trust between them was as thin as paper—one touch, and it would tear.

“So you still don’t believe me.” Lumina looked at his back. “Both times you didn’t use protection, I took the pills right in front of you. What are you worried about?”

He turned around, a few flecks of ash drifting from his cigarette. “Then tell me, what could Jurgen possibly gain by slandering you like this?”

She lowered her eyes, long lashes casting a delicate shadow on her cheeks.

“That night, he tried to force himself on me. I lied and said I was pregnant. I never imagined he’d use that as ammunition against me today.”

Lumina hesitated, then went on, “The moment news of a pregnancy gets out, you’ll toss me aside. Even if it turns out to be false, the trust between us will be fractured. He thinks the best way to get back at me is to have you abandon me, then he can pick up the pieces.”

She was making it all up. But when she thought about it, there was a certain logic to it, even if it wasn’t enough to convince him.

Cedric stubbed out his half-finished cigarette in the ashtray. “Enough. We’ll get answers tomorrow.”

With that, he brushed past her, their shoulders almost touching.

He was nearly at the door when Lumina’s voice stopped him. “If it turns out I’m pregnant, what will you do?”

Even as the words left her mouth, Lumina knew she was being ridiculous.

Wasn’t she just asking the obvious?

Cedric’s step faltered. His hand paused on the cold doorknob. He turned his head slowly, his expression unreadable. “I’ll find the best doctor.”

Lumina held his gaze for a moment, not surprised by his answer. Maybe the babies sensed its unwelcome father, because a dull ache suddenly curled through her abdomen.

“All right,” she replied with a small smile and a nod.

Just as he’d always said, these were the rules, and she had to play by them.

...

Lumina couldn’t be sure if the room was bugged, so she played it safe and texted Yadiel instead.

Yadiel: [So he did end up suspecting you. Good thing you reached out to me first. Don’t worry, everything’s set. I’ve got contacts at the hospitals near your hotel. You won’t run into any problems.]

Lumina: [Thank you, Yadiel. I’ve been preparing for this day for a long time.]
