His Untamed Rose novel Chapter 56

When the food arrived, Cedric picked up his knife and fork and began to eat at a leisurely pace, savoring each bite as the aroma filled the small private dining room.

“These North Sea prawns are exceptionally fresh. Are you sure you don’t want to try one?” Cedric deliberately ate slowly, letting out a satisfied sigh every now and then.

Lumina sat across from him, unmoved, her lips curled in a mocking smile. “No talking at the table, no chatting before bed—that’s what you used to teach me about proper manners. Forgotten already? You’re not even forty, Cedric, don’t tell me you’re getting senile early!”

She purposely prodded him, hoping to provoke a reaction. She knew—men and women alike—age was always a sensitive spot.

Outside the door, Xenon listened with veins throbbing at his temple, his heart pounding so hard it nearly leapt from his chest.

But Cedric didn’t rise to the bait. He calmly picked up a piece of sautéed okra and brought it to his lips, unruffled.

Lumina studied his composed expression, noticing even a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes.

It was bizarre; any other day, even the slightest bit of backtalk would have soured his mood. Yet now, he seemed utterly unbothered.

Was this what people meant by being in a good mood after… bed events?

“Speaking of which, my birthday’s coming up,” Cedric said, propping his chin on his hand and looking at her with a faint smile. “Have you got a present for me?”

He was asking just for show. He knew perfectly well that Lumina had been planning her escape for some time now. She could barely keep up with her plans to run off; how could she possibly have a gift ready?

“Of course I do.” Lumina’s smile was bright and sweet. “I’m planning to run away with Yadiel. It was supposed to be a surprise, but you found out early.”

Her earlier provocations paled in comparison to this bombshell.
