Lumina brushed his hand away, burrowing deeper under the covers. “Nothing happened. I’m just tired and need a few days to rest. I forgot to let you know I wouldn’t be in. You should go. Honestly, I regret ever giving you my door code.”

She didn’t want him to see her like this—exhausted, hollow, and utterly defeated.

But Cedric pulled the blanket back and, without hesitation, lifted her into his arms. She felt even lighter than before, as if he were holding a fragile sheet of paper that might crumble at the slightest touch.

Lumina’s lips trembled, her voice barely above a whisper. “Cedric, let me down. What are you doing?”

She tried to struggle, but her body refused to cooperate; she had no strength left.

He carried her out of the bedroom in silence. On the dining table, he saw the untouched dinner—forks still resting on the edge of the bowl, not a single bite taken.

His expression darkened, but he said nothing. He quickly changed his shoes and headed downstairs.

At that moment, Yadiel arrived at the building, bags in hand, just in time to see Cedric trying to ease Lumina into his car.

“Cedric!”

A sudden surge of anger crashed over Yadiel. He dropped his bags and charged forward, swinging a fist at Cedric’s jaw.

Cedric stepped back just in time. Yadiel’s punch grazed his chin but didn’t land.

Instantly, Cedric grabbed Yadiel’s wrist, using just enough force to immobilize him.

Yadiel tried to kick, but Cedric’s eyes hardened. He dodged the blow, then drove his knee into Yadiel’s stomach.

Lumina lay helpless in the backseat, listening to the brutal, thudding sounds of fists landing. She forced herself upright, just in time to see Cedric pinning Yadiel to the ground.

“What are you doing? Let him go, Cedric!” she cried, her voice hoarse.

The two men glared at each other, neither willing to back down.
