His Untamed Rose novel Chapter 63

Yadiel didn’t respond this time. He just thought Cedric’s question had crossed a line.

At that moment, Yadiel’s phone rang.

It was the hospital calling. There’d been a pile-up in the city center of Banyan Town, and the number of injured people had suddenly spiked. They needed him to come in, fast.

He hesitated for half a second before answering, “Alright, I’ll be there right away.”

Cedric barely glanced at him before stubbing out his cigarette. “I told you, you can’t take care of her, and you can’t protect her.”

Yadiel froze, watching Cedric’s tall figure stride back into the hospital. His hands, clenched at his sides, slowly curled into fists.

...

Lumina woke again to the dim light of evening.

As her eyes fluttered open, the sounds around her sharpened from distant and muffled to clear.

Cedric sat on the sofa, a laptop balanced on his knees, headphones on as he spoke quietly into his phone. The coffee table in front of him was scattered with paperwork. He looked utterly absorbed in work.

When he was in work mode, Cedric was all business: stern, unyielding, noticing even the smallest of mistakes.

Lumina lay there for a long time, just watching him.

Eventually, he took off his headphones and lifted his intense gaze.

Lumina quickly squeezed her eyes shut, pretending she was still asleep.

He murmured a few last words into his phone before hanging up, then crossed over to the bed and gently gathered her in his arms.

His palm brushed across her forehead, checking for a fever. The medicine was working; her temperature had gone down.

She breathed in his familiar scent, and when she dared to peek through one eye, his slightly chapped lips suddenly pressed down on hers.

The kiss caught her completely off guard. She clutched at his shirt, still a bit dazed from sleep. Her cheeks, pink and soft, were even more alluring, and her lashes fluttered under his touch, making his heart ache with tenderness.

He finished the kiss, resting his forehead against hers, his thumb brushing the corner of her lips. “Like spying on your man while he works, do you?”

Lumina snorted a laugh. “Of course. You’re working hard to pay my salary. Who doesn’t like watching their money grow?”

A smile tugged at Cedric’s lips as he pinched her nose. “How did I end up with such a little money-grubber?”

He held her a while longer before setting her gently back on the bed. “I’ll go take care of your discharge papers.”

On his way out, he handed her a small plate of apple slices. “Eat some fruit.”

Lumina rolled over. “I can’t. I’m still full from the ravioli earlier.”
