Gabriel and Helen were glaring at Peter. Under their pressure, he had no choice but to lower his head, though his gaze remained cold and sharp. He bitterly said, “I’m sorry.”

“Be sincere about it!” Gabriel demanded.

Peter raised his head and looked at Rhea before enunciating, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have talked behind your back. Please forgive me.”

Rhea’s gaze swept over him. “With a friend like you, Carter probably won’t get very far. You’re being used as a pawn. You gain nothing from it and even make enemies without realizing it.”

She said it in front of everyone, leaving Peter humiliated.

Lauren suddenly questioned, “Rhea, how can you say that? They’re good-‘

Helen interrupted sharply, “Ms. Thayer, you should go now. It’s late. You don’t need to stay here taking care of Peter.”

It was a clear dismissal.

Lauren’s face flushed red. How could she bear being sent away like this?

She glanced at Carter, her eyes brimming with tears. “I’ll leave first, Carter.‘

Lauren had spent the entire evening looking after Peter, only to be forced out now because of Rhea. Carter felt that Lauren had been treated unfairly.

Just as Lauren reached the door, Gabriel frowned and said coldly, “Ms. Thayer, you should concentrate on your own life from now on and not get involved with Peter. Spare yourself the worry and effort.”

According to the information he had collected, the person targeting the Henderson family seemed to resent Lauren. As such, he felt that he had to prevent Peter from staying friends with her for their own good.

Everyone could hear that Gabriel and Helen blamed Lauren for the incident. They even seemed to feel a sense of disdain toward her.

Lauren felt completely shaken. “Mr. and Mrs. Henderson, Peter is in this situation because of me. I’m truly sorry. I’ll stay away from now on and won’t trouble you again. I-

“Lauren.” Carter stopped her, refusing to let her belittle herself. He didn’t think it was her fault.

“Dad!” Peter also thought Gabriel had gone too far.

Arthur.

She continued, “I’ll let this matter slide. It’s already late. So, I won’t bother you further tonight.”

As her gaze fell on Peter, a flicker of disdain for his foolishness flashed in her eyes.

No sooner had she left than Carter followed. He blocked her path and snapped, “Who did you ask to go after the Hendersons?”
