Lauren quickly laid out a plan. “Let’s leave first. Later, we’ll tell the media about your relationship with Rhea, pointing out that she became a stepmom at a young age. If the Ravelles don’t want to be mocked, they’ll have to acknowledge you as their son–in–law. Once you have that connection, everything else will fall into place.”
It was said that even the noblest people couldn’t outmatch a schemer.
Lauren’s strategy was nothing short of petty, and even the strongest wouldn’t stand being haunted by such trivial schemes.
Carter narrowed his eyes.
He thought that she was right. He didn’t actually need Rhea to show up. Just having the world know that he had ties to the Ravelle family was enough.
He would use the Ravelle name, but he would never forget their disdain. One day, he would demand his reckoning.
Carter glanced at Philip and smiled. “Sorry, I was just worried about the kids. They’re sick and wanted to see Rhea, so I came.”
With that, he helped Lauren into the cab behind them and got in with her, while Arielle and Adrian stayed in the Jamison family’s car, following along.
They walked away just like that, as if nothing had happened. After all that fuss, he simply left, just like that.
Inside the car, Carter finally calmed himself down. He lit a cigarette to ease his nerves. “Thank you, Lauren. I lost my temper back there.”
“It’s my job to calm you down. There’s no need to thank me,” Lauren said, smiling.
Carter felt genuinely moved. “Having you by my side is really-
Suddenly, a loud crash sounded.

The cab they were in was suddenly hit from behind, rolling off the road into the nearby woods and tumbling who knows how far.
Glen, who was behind the wheel of the Jamison family’s car at the back, slammed on the brakes.
“Arielle!” Adrian screamed in terror.

Arielle’s face turned pale. She stared out the window in shock.
Not far away, the massive off–road vehicle that had sent the cab crashing into the woods slowly backed up, made a turn, and disappeared.
Arielle caught sight of the license plate and the driver. He was someone who had once visited their home to give Rhea a birthday gift. It was someone Rhea knew.
At that moment, Anthony, inside the off–road vehicle, was on the phone. “Don’t worry, Mr. Ravelle. I’ve got this.”
Liam and Ruby were furious. There was no way they would let this scumbag walk out of Draventh
unscathed.
By the time Carter returned to Colburn, his puny Jamison Group would probably be hanging by a
thread.
This was what happened when someone messed with Rhea.
After the off–road vehicle left, the end of the road was inexplicably blocked. No help could get
through.
Panicked, Glen waited and waited. It wasn’t until over two hours later that the police and ambulance finally arrived.
Carter, Lauren, and the cab driver were all injured and rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, Glen and the kids were taken to the police station.
The police asked Glen, “Did you see what kind of vehicle hit them?”
Glen shook his head. “I was focused on getting them out. By the time I looked, the vehicle was already gone.”
A female officer handed each of the kids a cup of water. “You must have been scared, huh?”
Arielle shook her head. “Not too bad.”
The officer was speechless for a moment.
