“You actually came alone,” she said, the woman who contacted me two days ago for this

meeting.

“You requested it, Officer Jones,” I replied tightly.

Officer Shelia Jones has been on the force for nearly twenty years. She’s in her early 40s and looks great for her age. Tight figure, long blonde hair, nice perky rack, pretty hazel eyes. She’s gorgeous, but dangerous. Because she’s a fu.cking cop.

“Still didn’t think you would,” she mumbled before looking around.

We met a few towns over in a dark, intimate bar. I hated it. Didn’t realize what the place was until I got here. I have no idea if this woman is trying to seduce me, or maybe she has orders to kill me. Regardless, she told me she had info on Luna, and I was grasping at straws for

more leads. So, here we are.

“You came alone too,” I said. I checked before walking in here. If she has someone watching us, they’re good at hiding. I seriously doubt there’s anyone here helping her though. Cops always think they’re good at going undercover. They’re not. They’re always obvious. Stiff, looking around, alone. Easy to detect, but I saw nothing at all that raised suspicion.

“If anyone knew I was here with you… I’d be dead,” Officer Jones replied, a smile on her face, but her eyes were sad.

“I’m sure you would be, Officer Jones.” I replied, my voice calm.

“Please, call me Shelia,” she said.

“Shelia, you

said you had info for me,” I said, getting right to the point.

“I do,” she replied, nodding before throwing back the rest of the drink she had. “I’ll get on with it, so you don’t have to keep waiting.”

I inspected her for a moment.

“You aren’t gonna try to get me to drink, or go somewhere with you?” I asked suspiciously.

“I want nothing in return from you, Karma,” she said. “I’m not here to trick you. Just here to give you information.”

“Alright then, spit it the fu.ck out,” I demanded.

Shelia sighed as she waved her glass in the air at the bartender. We were at a table, but it seemed like Shelia had been here for a while. I could tell she was a little tipsy, but there was more to it than that. Her body was tense. Not in the way that she was nervous about being here with me, but like she had given up and was waiting for something.

“They’re leaving with Luna and a couple of other kids tonight,” Shelia told me. Just like that. Said it all out loud like a fact. “You know the back–way out of town? Bear Creek Crossing? No one ever uses that road because it floods constantly. Well, used to.”

“Used to? Still does, doesn’t it?” I asked.

“They fixed the problem,” she told me.

“Who?” I pressed.

“SD, whoever that is,” she muttered. Just then, a new drink was set down in front of her. “Anyway,” she continued after the bartender walked away. “Sometime tonight, not sure when exactly, but you’ll find them on that road, leaving in a black van.”

“How did you even know we were looking for Luna?” I asked.

“We knew that she was from the reserve. We knew that you guys comforted the parents of the kids they took. We knew that your VP was close to Luna’s family,” she said. “I took my chances.”

I stared at her for a moment.

“How do I know I can trust you?” I asked.

“You don’t,” she replied before sipping her drink.

“Why are you doin‘ this?” I asked as I leaned over the table. “You been helpin‘ them all this time. They trust you enough to tell you sh.it. Why you just now speakin‘ out?”

Shelia smiled, but it didn’t reach her sȧd eyes. She looked at her glass as she ran her finger

“Okay, so that explains why you did it, but not why you’re changin‘ your mind,” I replied.

“Found out I’ve got cancer,” she told me. “Stage four lung cancer. They gave me six months at the most. Then she looked up at me. “Told you my reasons were sh.it.”

I’ll say. She’s only developing a conscience now because she’s going to die.

Tell me everything you know,” I demanded.

~ During the rescue ~

Shelia was right. She better have fu.cking been. I would have killed her before the cancer got its chance if she had been fu.cking with me.

“Get out of the car,” I said to the driver as I held my gun to his head. He was reluctant at first, but when Havoc ripped his buddy from the other side, he quickly made up his mind. “Start talkin‘,” I ordered as I kicked him to the ground.

Neither of them spoke.

“Searched the van,” Slider said as he walked up to me. “No weapons other than a few guns.”

*Search their bodies, I ordered.

Slider pulled out a few guns between the two of them and a couple of pocket knives.

“You two gonna talk or not?” I asked.

Both of them kept their mouths shut.

I already texted Dev to meet us here. Had Breaker already on his way too. I told Breaker to bring our “special” van down this road if he saw Dev leave. The two of them should be here any minute.

“Tie ‘em up,” I told Slider and Joker as the rest of us kept our guns on them. “You two are gonna give us answers, or you’re gonna die a very painful and slow death.”

A few moments later, two more vehicles pulled up. Breaker and Reaper were quick to throw the two in the back of our van. Joker and Slider rode in the back with the two goons while Breaker and Reaper rode in the front. CG and Havoc got in the black van to follow Breaker back to the compound. Psy.cho, Dev, and Dragon helped all the kids into the car to take them back to the compound. I texted Johnny to get a trailer and come out here to help me with everyone’s bikes right away.

It’s going to be a long night.

“The kids are pretty upset,” Psy.cho told me as soon as I got off my bike.

“I imagine so,” I grunted.

“How’d you know about this?” he asked.

“I had that road bein‘ watched too, but not as often. I was a fool for that,” I said as I looked around the empty parking lot of our clubhouse. “They could have gotten out if I hadn’t gotten the tip.”

“Don’t beat yourself up,” he replied. “No one uses that road because it’s closed down half the time.”

“Used to be,” I grumbled.

Psy.cho gave me a strange look.
