Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 120

He froze for a second, clearly thrown off, just as Kristen pulled an antiseptic wipe from her bag and hurried over to Amelia.

“Amelia, your cut is still bleeding. Let me clean it up for you,” Kristen said, worry written all over her face.

Amelia just felt grossed out. “I’m fine,” she muttered.

She brushed Kristen’s hand away—barely touching her, really—but Kristen staggered back like she’d been shoved, wobbling on her feet and nearly falling over.

But with Clive there? No way she was actually going to hit the floor.

He caught her easily, a steadying hand at her waist, helping her regain her balance.

“Amelia, you’ve really crossed the line this time,” Clive said, his eyes full of disappointment.

“It wasn’t her fault, Clive,” Kristen jumped in quickly, eager to defend Amelia. “I just lost my balance, really. Amelia didn’t do anything.”

“Ms. Watts, you don’t have to take the blame for everything,” Clive replied, his voice sharp, but the look he gave her was almost tender.

First, Amelia got Kristen fired. Now she was treating her like this, and Kristen was still trying to cover for her? Standing there, Amelia just looked petty and small by comparison.

Amelia was so over this little performance.

She didn’t know if this was some twisted game between them or if Clive was just that clueless.

Not that it mattered.

She really didn’t care anymore.

Still, until she landed the West Medicine deal, she couldn’t afford to pick a fight with Clive or even bring up divorce. This was the moment she needed to keep it together.

“Clive, since Ms. Watts hired the current R&D team, how about we open a second R&D division? Anyone who wants to follow Ms. Watts can move over there,” Amelia suggested, her voice calm and even.
