Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 13

Amelia called it “gardening,” but really, she was probably just gonna pull a few weeds here and there.

After all, every last tulip in that garden had been planted by her, just for him. There was no way she’d ever let anyone change a thing.

The whole thing almost made Clive laugh. All because he’d mentioned offhand that he liked tulips, Amelia went out and planted an entire garden full of them. She’d spent months taking care of them, her hands scratched and scarred from all the work.

And for what? Just for him to smile at her—and that was enough to make her think it was all worth it.

Her whole world seemed to revolve around him. Clive had to admit, when they first got together, her devotion got to him a little.

As a wife, Amelia was flawless.

She helped him get established at the company, and she took care of everything at home, never once complaining.

But the truth was, she was an open book—predictable, safe, a little boring.

“Do whatever you want with the house,” Clive said, his voice cool. “I’ve got work to do.”

Kristen walked over in her heels, purposely timing her entrance. “Mr. Salmeron, the meeting’s about to start.”

Amelia heard Kristen’s over-the-top voice through the phone and couldn’t help but let out a cold little laugh.

So, Clive had just gotten to the office, and those two already couldn’t wait to be together.

She kept her tone light, pretending nothing was wrong. “Okay, go ahead and start your meeting. I won’t keep you.”

Clive made a noncommittal sound, about to hang up, but before he could, the line went dead.

He actually froze, staring at the phone in surprise. Amelia had hung up on him first? She always used to wait for him to end the call…

“Mr. Salmeron?” Kristen’s voice snapped him out of it.

She tilted her petite face up at him, all concern, her chest brushing lightly against his arm.

After Kristen left, Clive shot Michael a look. “Seriously, Michael? What’s with the names?”

Michael dropped into the chair across from Clive, looking completely relaxed.

“There’s nobody else here. Besides, we always called that in college. Remember?”

Clive picked up a file and tossed it at him.

Michael dodged easily, his playful grin fading as he got down to business. “Alright, serious talk. Have you heard WestMed’s got a new owner?”

Clive rubbed his temples. “I’ve got someone looking into who it is.”

Michael leaned forward, lowering his voice. “Heard from my dad—rumor is, WestMed’s new owner is almost definitely the Packman family.”

At that, Clive’s expression darkened, just a little.
