Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 19

Worried she’d lose control and storm in to slap those two cheaters, Amelia slid on her sunglasses and slipped away quietly.

Inside the private room, Cameron sat in the corner, watching as Kristen blushed under everyone’s teasing. The sight left a bitter taste in his mouth. He downed his drink in one go.

As he set his glass down, he caught a glimpse of someone passing by the door, a flash of movement that looked oddly familiar.

“Alright, Penny, that’s enough,” Clive said, gently brushing his daughter’s hand off Kristen’s. With an exasperated sigh, he scooped Penny up. “Go play with Timmy, okay?”

Penny made a face, clearly not thrilled.

Kristen knelt down in front of her, persuading, “Penny, how about…” She glanced at Clive, then smiled. “How about I come with you, hmm?”

Penny, who always listened to Kristen, nodded and took her hand without a fuss.

Cameron watched Kristen walk off with Penny, then stood and wandered over to Clive.

“So, Clive, what’s going on with Amelia? She still hasn’t woken up?” Cameron asked, skipping the pleasantries.

Clive’s fingers paused on his phone. After a beat, he replied, “She woke up yesterday.”

Cameron froze, glancing toward the door.

So that woman he saw earlier—the one who looked just like Amelia—could it have really been her?

“She…” Cameron started, but Clive cut him off, his voice flat. “She’s blind. There’s no telling when, or if, she’ll recover. She’s always been proud. I don’t want anyone to know she’s awake until she’s back to normal.”

Blind?

A blind woman wouldn’t be lurking outside their door, peeking in.

Guess he was just seeing things. Cameron swallowed whatever he’d been about to say and let it go.

Clive’s eyes dropped to his phone, rereading the message Marian had sent two hours ago.

Marian: [Mrs. Salmeron was picked up by a car!]

There was a photo of the license plate attached.

But girls who were too easy to understand were like plain water—tasteless, but hard to give up.

Meanwhile...

“Ah-choo!”

Amelia let out a loud sneeze.

She glanced at the branching hallway ahead, her lips twitching with frustration.

It had been five years since Blue Plate Special was renovated and expanded. The place was almost unrecognizable.

She’d meant to head back the way she came, but she’d been lost in thought and somehow got herself turned around.

Scanning the walls and floors for any helpful signs, she wasn’t paying attention when she rounded the corner, and nearly crashed right into a man.
