Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 198

Adrian did exactly what Amelia asked and gave Clive his medicine.

The second that bitter, familiar taste hit his tongue, Clive’s eyes—dull from pain—flickered with something almost like hope. He glanced at the closed study door, wondering if someone was out there, too stubborn to come in but too softhearted to really leave him alone.

He closed his eyes for a moment, remembering how Amelia used to wait for him to finish the medicine, then peel a mint and hand it to him to take the edge off the taste.

“Dr. Reed, open the door,” Clive said suddenly, forcing the words out between clenched teeth.

Adrian hesitated, confused, but did what he was told. He opened the door and checked both ways. The hallway was empty—not a soul around.

When Adrian turned back, he saw Clive struggling to sit up, his face pale as he stared at the doorway, obviously hoping to see someone there.

Adrian finally got it—he was waiting for Mrs. Salmeron.

“Clive, want me to ask Donna if your wife’s asleep?” Adrian offered gently.

Clive’s eyes flashed with frustration and embarrassment. He squeezed his eyes shut and dropped back onto the couch, snapping, “What for? You want her here just to annoy me?”

Adrian kept quiet. He couldn’t help but think that just a minute ago, someone was craning their neck, desperate to see if she’d show up.

But this was between husband and wife—and his boss, too—so Adrian stayed out of it. He followed Amelia’s instructions, gave Clive another injection, and spent the next half hour checking his vitals. When he checked Clive’s pulse again, it was steady for the first time all night.

Mrs. Salmeron really was something else.

Adrian couldn’t help but respect Amelia. As a doctor, she was way ahead of him—maybe even better than his own mentor. And that was saying something, because his mentor was a big name in the medical world. How could someone as talented as Amelia have zero reputation?

Then he looked at Clive, already asleep, and it all made sense.

Adrian shook his head, feeling sorry for Amelia. Even from the outside, he could tell she deserved way more than this.

That night, Amelia slept in the guest room. She set her alarm early, careful not to wake the kids.

The second her alarm went off, she was up. She glanced out the window and saw Adrian’s car still outside. He’d stayed all night, really taking his job as family doctor seriously.

When she walked out, she saw Adrian still asleep on the couch in the living room. Amelia quietly slipped upstairs to the study.

The door was open—probably so Adrian could check on Clive during the night.
