Amelia stared at her phone, completely speechless.
She had no clue who this person was, but whoever it was clearly had way too much money and nothing better to do with it. And honestly, she didn’t even know their real identity. There was no way she was going to let a stranger do her such a big favor.
She wasn’t naive enough to believe in free lunches. People only go out of their way for you if there’s something in it for them. With how eager this person was, Amelia was sure they thought she had something they wanted.
With that thought, she just put her phone away and didn’t bother replying.
Her rideshare had already arrived. Amelia hurried into the car and headed to the apartment complex where she’d set up a meeting with the realtor.
The place was right across the street from West Medicine’s headquarters.
Rent here was no joke, but since she’d be working with West Medicine soon, living nearby would make her life so much easier and save her a ton of time.
Only a few apartments were up for rent in this fancy building.
Amelia toured them all in one go and finally picked a three-bedroom unit. The décor was stylish and modern, but the price made her heart ache.
“Ms. Sadinton, this one’s eleven thousand six hundred a month,” the realtor said gently. “If you want something smaller, it’d be a lot cheaper.”
“No, that’s okay. I have two kids. I want them to be comfortable,” Amelia said.
She had no intention of giving up custody of her children.
Maybe this place couldn’t compare to the Salmeron family’s mansion, but she was determined to give her kids the best she could afford. The rent was steep, sure, but still within her budget for now. Besides, this was just temporary. Once she saved up enough, she’d buy back the old Sadinton house that used to be theirs.
The realtor, also a woman, glanced at her with a bit more sympathy in her eyes.
Raising two kids on her own was no easy thing.
The realtor hesitated, then asked softly, “What about their father…?”
