Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 223

Last night, Penny actually slept soundly—no nightmares at all.

Maybe that mean lady wasn’t so mean after all.

Penny shuffled downstairs in her slippers, poking her little head around the corner to peek into the kitchen. Donna was the only one there, bustling around. No sign of that woman.

Penny let out a quiet huff and kicked at the edge of the carpet. Off working again, no doubt. Fine by her. At least when she was gone, nobody was around to scold her.

That should have made Penny happy, but it didn’t. She was too young to understand what disappointment was—all she knew was that her chest felt tight and heavy.

“Penny.”

She turned around at the sound of her dad’s voice and gave him a bright, sweet smile. “Daddy!”

She reached for a hug, and Clive bent down, lifting her up and settling her snugly in his arms. He studied her face, relieved to see that she looked healthier and more cheerful than before.

He glanced up the stairs. “Is Mom still sleeping?”

Penny pouted. “She left.”

Clive paused, just for a second.

Donna came out of the kitchen just in time to catch their conversation. “Sir, Mrs. Sadinton left early this morning. She said she had an important meeting with a client.”

Couldn’t even provide full lab data, but she still hadn’t given up on West Medicine. Clive scoffed to himself. He’d be right here, waiting for her pride to shatter so she’d come crawling back.

“Daddy, Momma Kristen said you brought me a present!” Penny’s eyes lit up as she dug around in Clive’s pockets.

He let her search, and she soon pulled out a pink charm.

“Wow, it’s so pretty! This was Momma Kristen’s charm!”

Clive barely glanced at it. “It’s yours now.”
