Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 249

She forced a smile, slipping a handkerchief into her palm. The lighting was just dim enough to help her fake it—she lifted the bowl, pretending to drink, but in reality, she was fishing out the herbs and dumping them onto the cloth. Whatever actually made it into her mouth, she quietly spat back out.

The old lady didn’t notice a thing.

When she saw they’d both nearly finished, she let out a dramatic yawn. “Oh, wow, I’m suddenly exhausted. I’m heading to bed. The guest room’s ready for you two. Stay the night, or go home, up to you.”

With that, she and Tara slipped away, leaving them alone.

Amelia tossed the handkerchief in the trash, then stood to leave.

Clive caught up immediately. “Stop.”

He grabbed her left hand from behind, then suddenly froze. Under the streetlight, her ring finger was completely bare.

“Where’s your wedding ring?” His brow creased, voice tight.

He remembered how she never took it off. Not even to sleep.

Amelia almost laughed. After all this time, he finally noticed.

“Oh, the diamond was too small. I was embarrassed to wear it, so I threw it out.” Her tone was airy, like it didn’t matter at all.

Threw it out?

Clive’s eyes narrowed, emotions dark and stormy.

He let out a cold laugh. “So Kristen was right about you, huh…”

Just hearing that name made Amelia want to throw up.

She stared him down, her smile sharp and icy. “Well, I hope you and Ms. Watts live happily ever after. Perfect couple, second time’s the charm.”
