Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 269

“Sweetheart, let’s just get home first. My leg really hurts.”

Diana glanced down at Amelia’s ankle and immediately dropped her teasing. She wrapped an arm around her and helped her carefully back toward the apartment complex.

All the way there, Diana didn’t hold back, muttering curses about Clive and his entire family.

“What a jerk. Seriously, he has zero shame. You could tell he’s at that bar all the time—the owner knew him by name! It was your first night out, just dancing with friends, and he completely lost it!”

Amelia just listened quietly, her face calm. When they got inside, she let Diana in and poured her a glass of water.

Diana, finally out of breath, looked around and gave the place a grudging nod. “Not bad,” she said.

Amelia sat down beside her. “I don’t have much stuff right now. Once Timmy and Penny move in, I’ll give the place a makeover. Make it feel more like home.”

Diana reached over and squeezed her hand. “Sweetheart, if you ever need anything, you have to tell me. Don’t try to handle everything on your own. You know what the Salmerons are like—none of them are easy to deal with. I just don’t want to see you get hurt.”

Amelia smiled. “Diana, if I don’t allow it, no one can take advantage of me.”

She used to love Clive so much it blinded her. She’d bent over backwards for the Salmeron family, hoping that if she just kept trying, one day they’d accept her and she’d finally have a real home.

Now she knew how naïve that was.

Sitting next to Diana, Amelia realized she’d always had friends who felt like family.

And now, she had two children who were her world.

She didn’t need to pin her happiness on anyone who never deserved it.
