Mr. Denton’s voice was clear as day, every word landing right in Amelia’s ears.
Her face stayed calm, but her thoughts were already spinning.
Someone wanted her out—badly. And they had the pull to actually do it.
Amelia almost laughed. All this drama, just to make Kristen feel better? Clive would really stoop this low.
Belle glanced at Amelia, then looked straight at the speakerphone, her voice steady. “Mr. Denton, you know West Medicine’s CEO is Mr. Packman now. If you blacklist Amelia, are you ready to go up against the Packman family?”
Everyone in the room knew just how much weight that name carried.
But Mr. Denton just chuckled, unbothered.
“Belle, there’s no need to throw the Packman family name at me. We both know Mr. Packman’s position is shaky at best, and West Medicine doesn’t matter much to his family anyway. Amelia’s just a project lead, not some heir.”
He’d worried, at first, that Amelia might be close to Ryan Packman, but after some digging, he’d learned she was already married—to Cloudcrest Salmeron, no less.
Apparently, Mrs. Salmeron wasn’t even as important as the housekeeper in the Salmeron family.
And the person actually making moves to blacklist her was Cameron—Salmeron’s best friend for more than a decade, and the only son of the powerful Henson family.
If you had to pick a side, it was obvious which one you’d want to avoid crossing.
“Mr. Denton—” Belle started, frowning, trying to say more.
But Mr. Denton cut her off, sounding bored. “Belle, I have to run to a meeting. That’s all for now.”
He hung up before she could say another word.
Belle took a slow breath. She didn’t look at Amelia, just turned to the procurement colleague. “Please reach out to our overseas suppliers—the ones we’ve worked with before.”
The colleague looked hesitant. “Belle, if we order overseas, it’ll take at least three weeks for delivery. That’ll hold up the project.”
“Belle,” Amelia said, stepping in, “let me handle the lab supply order. I promise I’ll get everything delivered this week.”
Belle didn’t answer right away. She just nodded for the procurement colleague to go.
Once the door shut and it was just the two of them, Belle turned to Amelia, her tone serious. “Ms. Sadinton, now’s not the time to prove a point. If you can’t get the supplies here on time, you’ll lose everyone’s trust on the team.”
Respect or doubt often started with the very first challenge.
Amelia knew Belle was looking out for her. “I get it. Since this is clearly aimed at me, I’ll take care of it. This project matters a lot to me. I won’t let it fall behind.”
Belle seemed satisfied, so she didn’t push further. “Alright. I’ll look forward to your good news.”
“One more thing, Belle,” Amelia added, “please don’t report this for now.”
She’d promised Ryan that personal stuff would never get in the way of work.
Back in college, Ryan already hated that she’d dated Clive. If he found out now that her mess with Clive was messing up her job, he’d probably fire her without a second thought.
Belle nodded. “As long as the supplies arrive on time, I won’t escalate things.”
“Thank you.” Amelia stood. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll get back to it.”
“Ms. Sadinton.” Belle called out as Amelia reached the door.
Amelia turned back.
Belle gave her a small, grateful smile. “About what happened in the break room at lunch—thank you.”
