Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 297

“What’s your problem, little girl? Didn’t your parents ever teach you any manners? You’re already fighting other kids at school. What’s next for you—setting fires or breaking the law when you grow up?”

Another woman jumped in, her voice sharp and mean.

“A kid as messed up as you shouldn’t even exist. If I were your mom, I would’ve made sure you were never born.”

Penny’s face was red, her voice shaking with anger. “I’m not a bad kid! And you’re not my mom. My mom didn’t get rid of me! My brother says our mom turned into a vegetable just to give birth to us!”

The woman just sneered, her smile cold and cruel. “So your mom gave birth to you but never raised you. No wonder you act like this.”

“You...!” Penny balled up her fists, but she was just a little kid. She glared at the two women in heavy makeup, searching for words she couldn’t find, her whole body trembling with frustration.

“What, you want to hit an adult now?” One of the moms, seeing Ms. Arnold wasn’t around, suddenly stepped right up to Penny. “Let me show you what real discipline is.”

“If you touch my daughter, no one is leaving this room today.” The voice was icy and furious, echoing from the doorway.

Penny, who’d been shrinking back, snapped her head up at the sound. When she saw Amelia walk in, her eyes stung, and she nearly burst into tears.

Amelia held out her hand.

Penny hesitated for a split second, then ran straight into her arms, pressing herself close.

The two mothers shot each other a look, their eyes full of suspicion as they sized Amelia up.

“So you’re Penny’s mother?”
