Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 306

Donna was all set to launch into a full-blown rant about how Mrs. Salmeron was being treated so unfairly, but Clive didn’t give her the chance. With a stormy look, he turned on his heel and left the room.

As Donna closed the door behind him, she muttered under her breath, “He’s always asking questions, but never wants to hear the truth…”

Clive was in a foul mood all evening. When he got back to the master bedroom, his eyes landed on the wedding photo still hanging on the wall. The longer he stared at Amelia’s bright smile in that picture, the more it bothered him. That carefree grin—he hadn’t seen it once since she woke up.

He ripped the photo off the wall and tossed it into the corner. Out of sight, out of mind—or so he hoped.

Trying to shake off his frustration, Clive took a long shower. Once he was feeling a little better, he went about his usual routine, heading to the kids’ rooms to say goodnight.

Timmy’s bed was empty when Clive opened the door. The door to the little computer room was cracked open, and he could hear the faint clacking of keys. Penny was sprawled out on her bed, phone in hand, typing away with total focus. An electronic dictionary sat next to her, ready in case she got stuck on a word.

Clive had a feeling she was texting Kristen again—Penny had always been really attached to her.

“Penny.”

As soon as she saw her dad, Penny tensed up and hid her phone behind her back.

Clive figured she thought he’d be mad about her being on her phone so late.

“Are you messaging Aunt Kristen again?”

Penny ducked her head, long lashes hiding her eyes. “Mmm…”

Clive went over and patted her head, his voice gentle but a little distant. “From now on, no matter where you are, don’t call Kristen ‘Mom,’ okay? You have your own mom.”

“…Okay. I know,” Penny said softly, surprisingly obedient for once.

He kissed her forehead. “You can play on your phone a few more minutes, then it’s time to sleep. Aunt Kristen and I have an important meeting tomorrow morning, so let her rest, alright?”

Penny nodded, all serious.

Clive looked at his daughter and saw so much of Amelia in her face. His expression changed, something complicated flickering in his eyes. He stroked her cheek lightly, then got up and left to check on Timmy.

Once Clive was gone, Penny pulled out her phone right away. She finished typing her message to Amelia: Ugh, you’re so clueless. It’s not Pixie, it’s Jinx. Like ‘jinx’ as in bad luck.

She grumbled under her breath as she typed, “Why do you care about her so much anyway?”

Meanwhile, Clive walked into the study.

Timmy had already spun around in his chair, watching his dad.

“Dad, is Mom back yet?” His voice was still a little awkward, but he managed to get the word ‘Mom’ out.

Clive paused. “No, not yet.”
