Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 307

Amelia was just about to send Andrew a polite text to see if he was free for a call when his name popped up on her screen—he was calling her first.

“Ms. Sadinton.” Andrew sounded just as sharp and energized as ever, even though it was late. He was the kind of high-powered lawyer who thrived on chaos and midnight deadlines. He didn’t waste time. “I’m already pulling together the paperwork for the divorce. Like you said, after next week’s board meeting, Clive will be out. We’ll file on the same day.”

He added, almost cheerfully, “Two hits at once. Should be a good test of Clive’s stamina.”

Amelia couldn’t help thinking that only a lawyer could make plotting someone’s downfall sound so professional.

“At the board meeting, Clive’s definitely getting kicked out,” she agreed. “And when it comes to the divorce, I think once he weighs his options, he’ll agree to that, too.”

Andrew paused, then cut right to the heart of what was worrying her. “You’re worried about custody, aren’t you?” His tone was more thoughtful. “Getting Penny’s custody shouldn’t be too tough. Timmy’s the tricky one. But it’s not impossible.”

“Usually, five-year-olds don’t get much say. But Timmy isn’t just any kid—he’s a prodigy. We can use that.”

Clearly, he already had a plan.

“Thank you, Andrew. I know this is a lot of work,” Amelia said sincerely.

He chuckled. “Honestly, I’m happy to take your case. It might just be the highlight of my month.”

He wasn’t just being nice. With Ryan involved, the payment was generous enough that he was already planning a month in the Maldives when this was over.

“Andrew, I can pay the retainer now if you’d like,” Amelia offered. She’d already set up a new bank account, and the proceeds from selling her shares to Sammy had come through. It wasn’t a small sum.

“No need to rush,” Andrew said, sounding almost insulted. “Ms. Sadinton, please respect my professional ethics. Don’t even mention money until we’ve won. Anything else would be an insult.”

Amelia was so surprised she almost laughed. She actually found herself respecting him even more.

“Alright,” she said. Then, a little indignantly, “Andrew, I honestly think people online are way too harsh about you. They call you greedy and say you only take high-paying cases, but you’re nothing like that.”

Andrew sounded a little embarrassed, and let out a dry laugh. “Let them talk. I don’t care what people say.”

People could gossip all they wanted. He didn’t scam the poor or do anything shady. Who cared if he liked making money? That was his right.

After the call, Amelia grabbed a pen and circled the date of the board meeting on her calendar. For the first time in ages, she actually felt like she had something to look forward to.

Her phone buzzed with a new message.

It was from Will.

Will: Still awake? If you can’t sleep and need some fresh air, want to walk around the neighborhood together?

Will had driven her home that night, and he hadn’t left right away. He’d waited nearby, just in case Clive tried to do anything crazy.
