Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 31

Clive’s voice cut through the air, sharp with barely contained anger.

“Amelia, what are you doing?”

Behind her sunglasses, Amelia watched Clive storm toward her, every step radiating disapproval. His handsome face was drawn into a deep frown, and his eyes—so openly protective of Kristen—didn’t bother to hide how little patience he had for Amelia. He could afford to be transparent; after all, she was “blind.”

“Salmeron, really, it’s not her fault!” Kristen jumped in, quickly grabbing Clive’s arm. “I was just being careless and got my hand caught in the door. That’s all.”

Aiden, who’d seen everything, tried to defuse the tension. “Sir, it was honestly just an accident. Nothing more.”

Clive, always so concerned with appearances, pressed his lips into a thin line. He didn’t push the topic, but reached out his hand to Kristen instead.

“Let me see.”

Kristen hesitated, clearly wanting to hide her hand, but after a moment, she placed it gently in his palm.

“It doesn’t hurt, really,” she said softly.

Clive’s frown deepened. “If it had been any worse, you might’ve broken a bone.”

He didn’t say her name, but Amelia heard the accusation loud and clear.

She used to think she’d grown numb to his words, but loving Clive for so many years had left her raw, vulnerable to every little wound he dealt out.

“It’s fine, Salmeron. I’ll put some ointment on and be as good as new.” Kristen offered a soothing smile. “And it’s understandable if Mrs. Salmeron is upset. She just joined the development team, and probably heard about you making me manager last week. Anyone would be a little bothered.”

Clive’s expression only grew colder.

“So that’s what this is about. I was going to talk to you about it when we got home.” He shot a look at Amelia, his tone sharp and dismissive. “This was the board’s decision, Amelia. You had no right to react like that.”

He’d already decided she was the villain here.

Amelia suddenly felt so tired—tired of fighting for someone who’d never once fought for her. She’d spent more than a decade loving this man, only to realize how cheap that love had become.

Still, she forced herself to play along. “Fine. We’ll talk at home tonight.”

But Clive wasn’t done.

“Amelia, I think you owe Ms. Watts an apology.”

He stood there, frowning, ready to defend his precious Kristen.

All these years, and all she’d gotten was heartbreak in return.

She took a shaky breath, holding her emotions back, and tried—one last time—to explain.

“Clive, you know me. I would never—”

“That’s enough.” He cut her off, voice hard. “Amelia, apologize to Ms. Watts. Try to act like an adult for once.”

At that, something inside Amelia just… broke. She couldn’t even find the words to argue anymore.

Her silence only made Clive’s expression grow darker, frustration simmering under the surface.

Amelia was supposed to be the one who never refused him.

All he wanted was a simple apology, but she wouldn’t give in.

Clive took a deep breath, trying to keep his temper in check, and reached out to grab her arm. But before he could touch her, Kristen caught his wrist.

“Salmeron…”
