Kristen wasn’t exactly a big deal, but since Will had introduced her, Amelia figured she should show a little respect for his sake.

Emmery looked like he had other people to take care of, so Amelia said gently, “Emmery, if you’ve got something to do, don’t worry about us. Just tell us where Dr. Wade’s office is, and we’ll find it ourselves.”

Emmery’s phone was buzzing nonstop in his hand. He could only apologize. “Sorry, you two. Dr. Wade’s office is just up ahead, take a left. I have to take this call.”

He turned and hurried downstairs, answering his phone as he went. “Hello, Lin—”

Amelia and Belle kept walking, missing the rest of his conversation.

Belle looked around, then inched closer to Amelia and whispered, “Emmery’s off to meet some big shot. Like, someone with serious connections.”

Amelia blinked. “How do you know?”

Belle tapped her glasses with a smug little smile. “I saw it with my own four eyes. Emmery saved that person’s number as ‘VIP Contact.’”

Amelia just stared. She’d always thought Belle was kind of cool and distant, but apparently she could be pretty gossipy once you got to know her.

Amelia wasn’t really interested in everyone else’s business. She just glanced around the hallway, her nerves prickling a little. Deep down, she was kind of hoping to run into Dr. Borgen or her old group from school.

Last time, she’d bumped into Dr. Wade and Dr. Borgen outside that restaurant, and it was obvious those two weren’t just there to eat. When top people like that brought along their students, there was definitely more going on—probably some talk about working together.

But when they reached Dr. Wade’s office, Amelia peeked inside, a little nervous. Only Dr. Wade was there.

She felt a tiny pang of disappointment, but she knocked and called softly, “Dr. Wade?”

“Amelia!” Dr. Wade had just finished a call, but the second he saw her at the door, his expression changed completely—he broke into a huge, welcoming smile and walked over.

Belle, meanwhile, looked like she was about to faint. Her idol was right there in front of her, alive and real. She clutched Amelia’s sleeve, her hands trembling.

“Oh my god, oh my god, I can’t breathe! It’s really Dr. Wade—like, actually him!”

Amelia couldn’t help but laugh. “Take it easy, Belle.”

Belle managed to flash a bright smile as Dr. Wade came over, then leaned toward Amelia and whispered, “From now on, just call me Belle. Don’t be so formal, okay?”

Amelia just grinned. Well, at least she was getting to bask in Dr. Wade’s glow, too.

“Hello, Dr. Wade! I’m Belle. I’m a huge fan of your work!” Belle tried to keep it together, but her hands were still shaking a little as she shook his hand.
