Dr. Wade finally gave in.
“All right, but there’s something I need to remind you,” he said, his voice serious. “There are plenty of men out there, you know. Emmery isn’t a bad option either!”
Amelia just stared at him, at a total loss for words.
Did he really think she kept Kristen on her team just to fight for Clive?
“Dr. Wade, I—” Amelia started, wanting to clear things up, but before she could finish, a uniformed officer rushed over.
“Dr. Wade, the Vice President is here in person, and he brought guests. He’d like to see you downstairs right away.”
Amelia knew that was her cue to leave.
“I’ll get going then,” she said.
“Alright, I won’t walk you out. We’ll set another time to talk about the project,” Dr. Wade replied, already hurrying off.
Amelia headed out too.
Her phone was still with the security office. She stopped by to pick it up, noticed that Belle’s things had already been picked up, but Belle had left her car keys behind.
As soon as Amelia turned on her phone, a message from Belle popped up.
Belle: Amelia, I hitched a ride back to the office with the materials truck. I left my car for you—just drive it home.
Amelia: Thanks, Belle.
She grabbed the keys and made her way to the underground parking lot.
The moment she reached the entrance, she spotted two all-too-familiar figures.
Clive and Kristen, standing by their cars, deep in conversation. Of course, their cars were parked right across from Belle’s. Typical.
Amelia wasn’t scared of running into them—just annoyed. She walked straight over.
“Was it Amelia who did this?” Clive’s voice echoed in the empty garage, rough with anger and worry. “If she’d pressed any harder, she could’ve broken your bones!”
He sounded pissed. “I can’t believe I was so wrong about her. I never thought Amelia could be so jealous and mean! I already told her, nothing ever happened between us—”
“It’s my fault,” Kristen said, voice shaky and thick with tears. “I shouldn’t have just shown up at Dr. Wade’s office. I just didn’t want you to waste a trip. I thought if I begged Dr. Wade to meet you today, it’d help… I’m sorry, Clive. I must be causing you so much trouble.”
Clive was worried about the project, but seeing Kristen cry, looking so fragile, made his anger crumble. She’d only gone to Dr. Wade for his sake, and Amelia hit her for it...
He took a deep breath, finally softening, and reached out to wipe away Kristen’s tears.
The moment his hand touched her face, Kristen stepped forward and hugged him tightly around the waist.
Clive froze—not because he minded, but because he was worried about the security cameras catching this. The last thing he needed was Diego getting an even worse impression of him.
“Kristen…” Clive started, trying to gently push her away.
