Clive let out a cold, mocking laugh.
“If you really want me back, Amelia, prove it. Show me you mean it, instead of standing here throwing jealous fits.”
Amelia just stared at him, completely silent.
As Clive moved closer, she subtly shifted her right leg back, ready to defend herself. If he even tried anything, he was going to find out the hard way what a well-placed knee could do.
But he didn’t try a thing. It was obvious he just wanted to irritate her.
“Clive, can I be honest with you?” Amelia said, her voice flat.
He gave her a slow, smug smile. “I’m listening.”
She met his eyes, dead serious. “If you’re bored, maybe go get your head checked. You might need it.”
Seriously, where did he get the idea she wanted him back? She couldn’t wait for the day he was out of her life for good.
At this point, Amelia was starting to think Penny didn’t turn out a genius like Timmy because Clive’s genes were dragging her down.
She was so done with this man. Without another word, she turned to leave.
Her car was just ahead.
Clive suddenly slapped his hand against the wall in front of her, blocking her way.
“Go talk to Dr. Wade and clear things up!” he snapped, finally dropping the act. “You really went around telling people I abused you?”
Amelia let out a cold laugh, her eyes icy as she stared him down.
“Are you seriously denying you ever laid a hand on me? Or do you think unless you left me black and blue, it doesn’t count as abuse?”
—
Base’s main control room.
Dr. Wade was showing the Vice President and a few other department heads around the monitoring center.
Everyone kept glancing at the young man walking beside the VP. Sure, people were curious about who he was, but mostly, it was because he was just ridiculously good-looking.
Like, spotlight-on-him, can’t-ignore-him, unfairly handsome.
The Vice President made the introductions himself. “This is Mr. Packman, representing the Packman family. The base recently applied for a billion-dollar grant, and Packman Global is always happy to support the country. I’m just here to show Mr. Packman around today.”
So this was the money guy. No wonder no one could look away from Ryan.
