Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 339

At first, it was only three thousand dollars.

Then it climbed to thirty thousand. Later, three million. The amounts just kept getting bigger.

And every time, the borrower was unfailingly polite. Holidays, birthdays, whatever the occasion, she’d send Aaron these ridiculously flattering emails, practically falling over herself to wish her patient creditor well.

Aaron never replied. Not once. Still, she kept those messages coming, relentless as ever.

After the news ended, Aaron was about to turn off the TV but accidentally hit the wrong button and switched to another channel.

The entertainment channel.

The host was saying, “International rising star Diana has confirmed she’ll be attending this year’s Seine Film Festival…”

There she was on the screen—Diana, dressed to the nines, beaming as she waved at every camera, blowing kisses like she owned the room.

Aaron watched for a couple of seconds, then switched off the TV.

Diana followed Amelia back to her place, only to realize she’d left her toiletry bag in the car.

Amelia handed her a set of pajamas and told her to take a shower first. While Diana was in the bathroom, Amelia headed downstairs to the convenience store to buy some disposable toiletries.

On her way, Amelia kept checking her phone, but there was still nothing from Penny.

She couldn’t help herself. She typed out a message.

Hey sweetheart, what are you up to? Are you getting ready for bed? Eat anything tasty tonight?

She hit send, but a red exclamation mark popped up right away.

She just stood there, frozen, like someone had hit her over the head.

“Watch out!”

A sharp voice snapped her out of it. Before she could react, Will grabbed her, pulling her into his arms just as a delivery bike tore past the spot where she’d been standing.

“Are you okay?” Will looked her over, worry all over his face.

“I’m fine. Really, thank you.” Amelia managed a grateful smile, her heart still racing.

Will frowned. “What were you staring at? You didn’t even hear the horn.”

Amelia’s expression clouded over. She clearly didn’t want to talk about it.

Will hesitated, thinking maybe he’d said the wrong thing. He rushed to explain. “I didn’t mean to scold you. I just—”

“I know,” Amelia said, forcing a weak smile, her voice tinged with bitterness. “I just realized my daughter blocked me again. Things were finally getting better… or so I thought.”

She’d hoped their relationship was on the mend.

But every time Penny met up with Kristen, Amelia—the actual mom—was immediately pushed aside.

Suddenly, she just felt so tired. The exhaustion and helplessness hit her all at once.

“It just feels like no matter what I do, I can’t get any closer to Penny…” she whispered.
