Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 341

“Thanks for your help,” Adrian said.

“Just part of the job. I’ll go get the meds sorted out.” Adrian hung up as he walked out and dialed the pharmacy, asking the night shift to prep the prescription.

He’d barely reached the door when it swung open.

Clive walked in, bringing a rush of cool night air and a strong waft of perfume. Adrian instantly recognized it—a woman’s scent clinging to Clive’s coat.

So, Clive had clearly been out with Kristen. That late.

“Dr. Reed?” Clive looked surprised to see Adrian in the hall, his face tightening with worry. “Is Penny sick again?”

Penny was always the one who got sick. She loved her snacks, couldn’t control herself, and trouble always found her.

Adrian kept her voice calm and polite, keeping things professional between an employee and her boss. “Mr. Salmeron, Penny’s not feeling well. I’ve already checked on her. Ms. Sadinton prescribed something over the phone. The pharmacy’s getting it ready, and it should be delivered in about two hours. Please make sure someone’s home to get it.”

She couldn’t help letting a hint of sarcasm slip at the end.

Clive didn’t seem to notice, just catching the important part. “Amelia’s back?” He glanced up toward the stairs, hope flickering across his face as he headed for them.

“Ms. Sadinton didn’t come by. She just called to check in on Penny,” Adrian replied.

That little spark of hope disappeared from Clive’s eyes. He nodded at Adrian. “Thank you.” Then he hurried upstairs to the kids’ room.

“Penny!”

Timmy was sitting by Penny’s bed, holding her hand, his forehead pressed to hers as he whispered quietly. When Clive came in, Timmy just frowned and stood up, giving his dad space.

“Penny, how are you feeling?” Clive scooped her up gently. Seeing her little face scrunched up in pain made him wince a little, too.

“Can you tell Daddy if anything else hurts?”

Penny shook her head and snuggled against him. Then she caught a whiff of something and wriggled away, ducking right back under her blanket with a little grimace.

“What’s wrong, sweetie?” Clive was confused.

Donna came in with a bowl of warm oatmeal. She wrinkled her nose immediately, picking up on the perfume. Kristen’s, obviously.

So Clive really had spent the whole night with Kristen.

She didn’t bother hiding her annoyance. “Clive, that perfume on you is terrible. It’s making Penny feel worse.”

Clive knew Donna never liked Kristen, so he just ignored the comment. Once he was sure Penny was okay for now, he finally relaxed a bit.

“Penny, I’ll go change and come back to stay with you, okay?”
