Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 36

Meanwhile, Aiden had just dropped Amelia off at her door.

“Thanks for the ride, Aiden.”

“It’s really no trouble, ma’am.” His voice was warm and sincere. “And I hope your eyes get better soon.”

Amelia smiled, soft and genuine. “Thank you.”

Aiden started to walk away, but he hesitated, glancing back at her. “Most of the people in R&D are pretty new—they don’t know you yet. But once they see what you’re capable of, I’m sure everyone will want to work with you.”

He meant every word, not just out of gratitude for all the ways Amelia had helped him before, but because he honestly believed it. He knew exactly what she could do.

To outsiders, it looked like Clive had single-handedly turned Cloudcrest into a powerhouse after becoming CEO. But Aiden knew the truth: Amelia was the one who’d built the foundation.

Seven years ago, she’d developed the key drug that put Cloudcrest on the map. Her partnership with West Medicine had shot the company straight to the top of the industry.

And that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Aiden had heard her name long before they ever met—a genius from Baybridge University, one of those once-in-a-century legends. At first, he thought people were exaggerating. But after working with her, he realized they were actually underselling her.

Amelia could tell Aiden wasn’t just being polite. He truly meant it.

“Thank you, Aiden,” she said, sincerely.

Aiden gave a little bow out of habit, then remembered she couldn’t see him. He scratched his head, a little sheepish. “I’ll head back to the office now, ma’am.”

“All right.”

Amelia turned to go inside—and immediately noticed the front door had been cracked open. Marian was peeking out, phone in hand, snapping a picture of Aiden as he walked away.

So she’d been hiding behind the door, eavesdropping the entire time.

Amelia pretended not to notice. She tapped her white cane along the floor, “accidentally” swinging it right into Marian’s shin.

Just hearing Rachel so lively made Amelia smile.

“My old number’s been dead for five years—that’s totally normal. What’s up? Why did you need to find me so urgently?”

“Amelia, I kept copies of all the files on those three drugs Kristen’s team developed over the past five years—from the early research all the way to when they hit the market. I just sent them to your email. Can you take a look? Something about them feels… really familiar.”

Amelia let out a helpless laugh. “Rachel, did you forget something?”

There was a beat of silence, then Rachel gasped. “Oh, right… you can’t see at the moment. Amelia, get someone you trust to read them to you, or let’s meet up soon and I’ll go over everything with you, okay?”

Someone in the background called Rachel’s name. She answered quickly, then spoke into the phone again.

“I’ll talk to you later—I’ve gotta run!” And with that, she hung up.

Amelia had already pulled out her phone and opened her inbox. As her fingers flew over the screen, scrolling through the files Rachel had sent, her expression grew colder and colder.
