Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 389

Amelia didn’t expect Ryan’s call at all. She hesitated for a split second, reaching for her phone just as a message from Timmy slid across the top of her screen.

Timmy: Mom, are you free tomorrow night? Want to have dinner together?

The message made her smile—Timmy had never asked her out like this before. Even if she was busy, she’d find a way to make it work.

She shot back a quick reply: Of course!

Then she picked up Ryan’s call, her voice polite but laced with a warmth she couldn’t quite hide. “Mr. Packman,” she greeted, her tone softer and lighter than usual, almost teasing.

On the other end, Ryan was sprawled back in his chair, long legs crossed, feet propped up on his desk. He couldn’t help but smile at the sound of her happiness.

“Someone’s in a good mood,” he teased.

“I am,” she admitted easily.

Today was, hands down, the best day she’d had in a long while.

“Thank you for getting my stuff back from Cloudcrest,” she said sincerely.

Ryan shifted in his seat, his voice low and lazy. “Then take me out to dinner.”

Amelia blinked, her thoughts going a mile a minute. “…Tonight?”

Wait, did he mean she was supposed to pay for the entire team’s dinner tonight at that fancy place? With fifty people from the project, plus the higher-ups, that bill would be insane.

She took a deep breath. “Mr. Packman, maybe you should just send my things back the same way you got them. I’ll pay the shipping. Next time, I’ll go get them myself.”

She spoke so fast that Ryan barely had a chance to get a word in.

There was a short pause on the other end, then he let out a low, helpless laugh. “Amelia, sometimes I really want to take your brain apart just to see how it works.”

“Huh?” she said, genuinely confused.

“I meant tomorrow night,” he drawled.

“Oh. Tomorrow won’t work,” she replied immediately. “I already have plans.”

“With who?” His tone cooled just a bit.

Nosy much? But she answered anyway. “My son, Timmy.”

Oh, her son.

Ryan, who’d sat up a little, leaned back again. “Fine, then. How about a late-night snack? That’s good enough for me.”

He couldn’t exactly compete with a kid.

Amelia sighed, half exasperated, half amused. “And what do you want to eat, Mr. Packman?”

“We’ll figure it out tomorrow,” Ryan said, then hung up.
