Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 390

Timmy flipped open his little notebook. Inside, he’d glued a magazine cutout of Will’s face and drawn a neat chart underneath. He picked up his pen and, after a moment of serious thought, wrote an 8.7 in the “Looks” column.

“What are you writing, Timmy?” Penny asked, rubbing her eyes as she woke up.

“Nothing,” Timmy said, snapping the notebook shut.

“Oh…” Penny shrugged. If her big brother said it was nothing, then it was nothing.

She absentmindedly took another bite of her half-eaten cookie. Suddenly remembering something, she reached into her pink crossbody purse and pulled out her phone. She scrolled through her messages—nothing from Amelia. Not a single “Did you eat?” or “How are you?”

“Hmph!” she huffed.

Fine. If Mom didn’t care, then she wouldn’t care either.

Penny stuffed her phone back in her bag, crammed the rest of her cookie into her mouth, and puffed out her cheeks like a little hamster. Turning away, she sulked in silence.

That afternoon, their research team got to clock out thirty minutes early.

They were headed to one of the top restaurants in Alson Creek, a place so exclusive that even having money didn’t guarantee a table. The restaurant looked like a tiny castle, three floors tall, but it only ever served a hundred people a night.

Ryan, though, had serious connections. He reserved the entire second floor just for them.

Amelia hitched a ride with Belle. She hadn’t changed out of her red dress from that morning, and as they were about to leave, Belle insisted on giving her a quick makeup touch-up.

“Tonight’s a big deal—Mr. Packman’s hosting himself, so every department head has to be there. That’s like, twenty-something people! And I heard there are a few single, eligible guys in the mix,” Belle said, waggling her eyebrows at Amelia. The message was clear: Don’t miss your chance.

Amelia laughed. “Belle, I’m really not in the mood for all that. Maybe you should be thinking about your own love life.”

Belle looked at Amelia’s reflection as she reapplied her lipstick. “Office romance is a hard no for me. And this year, I’m into younger guys, anyway.”

She was about to keep talking when she suddenly clutched her stomach. “Ugh, Amelia, give me ten minutes. I need the bathroom.” She shoved her purse into Amelia’s hands and hurried off.

When Belle came back, she found Amelia waiting calmly outside.

What a stunner, Belle thought. Whoever ends up with her is going to be so lucky...

By the time they got going, they were way behind the rest of the group.

Belle set the GPS, and they drove to the restaurant alone.

On the way, Amelia was scrolling through her phone when a call popped up. Seeing Will’s name, she sighed quietly.

She hesitated for a second, then answered. “Hey, Will.”
