Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 420

Amelia held Timmy’s hand as they walked along the riverside, their steps slow and easy. Will trailed behind, carrying their things, quietly watching the two of them—mother and son, laughing together. The sight made him smile.

Kyle, ever the considerate one, found an excuse about meeting friends online for games and ducked out early.

Penny hadn’t made it tonight, but Amelia didn’t mind. She was just grateful for this rare, peaceful time alone with her son. Her heart felt full to the brim.

Timmy, usually so grown up for his age, actually let some of his childish side show this evening. He chatted away about school, complained about the teacher he didn’t like, grumbled about his kind-of-annoying desk mate.

Amelia just listened, her eyes gentle, soaking in every detail of her little boy’s face. Most five-year-olds were still chubby and round, but Timmy’s features were already taking shape—his eyes especially, so much like hers.

After a while, the driver came over and softly reminded them, “Timmy, it’s time to go home.”

Amelia crouched down, reluctant to say goodbye. “Bye, Timmy.”

Soon, she told herself, they wouldn’t have to keep saying goodbye like this.

“Mom, I have something for you,” Timmy said, digging into his backpack. He pulled out a pressed leaf, preserved like a little treasure, and handed it to her, a bit bashful.

He scratched his head, looking embarrassed. “I saw a jar of leaves at home. Dad said you collected them.”

He was too young to get why those leaves mattered—he just knew his mom liked them. So he’d spent a recess hunting for the prettiest leaf he could find, then made it into a keepsake for her.

Amelia’s eyes stung with tears. She hugged him tight. “Thank you, sweetheart. I love it.”

From now on, pressed leaves wouldn’t just remind her of Clive and the pain he left behind—they’d have a new meaning.

Timmy was healing her, one small gesture at a time.

She blinked away her tears and asked the driver if they could have five more minutes. Then she searched the grass and picked out a beautiful leaf of her own. She gave it to Timmy, pretending it was a big, official moment.

“Sweetheart, let’s make a deal. Every time we see each other, we’ll trade pretty leaves. Deal?”

Timmy rolled his eyes and grinned. “Mom, that’s so childish.”

But he took the leaf anyway, tucking it carefully into his bag.

Amelia watched her son get into the car, waving as he left. Then she headed over to Will’s car—they lived in the same neighborhood, so riding together just made sense.

She slid into the passenger seat. Will was just about to get in when his phone started ringing. Kristen.

He glanced at Amelia through the window, hesitated, then picked up, turning away from the car.
