Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 71

After leaving the cemetery, Amelia barely had time to catch her breath before Miranda whisked her off to a chic kaiseki restaurant. Miranda led her upstairs to a private room, closing the door behind them.

“Ms. Sadinton, just relax here for a bit. Diana will join you after her meeting with Mr. Schuck,” Miranda said with a reassuring smile.

“Thank you, Miranda. I appreciate it,” Amelia replied.

As Miranda turned to leave, something seemed to pop into her mind. She dug around in her oversized bag, finally producing a small box. “Oh, almost forgot—here are the mini surveillance cameras you asked for.”

Amelia opened the box. The cameras were tiny, barely the size of her thumb. Perfect for hiding in the kitchen. With these, she’d have all the proof she needed of Marian’s sticky fingers.

“Miranda, do you mind if I borrow your laptop for a minute?” Amelia asked.

“Of course! Just a warning, though: it’s been super slow lately and keeps bombarding me with weird ads,” Miranda sighed, handing over the laptop she always carried for work emergencies.

“Let me take a look,” Amelia said, already powering it on and connecting the cameras to her phone. While she was at it, she ran a quick scan, sweeping away a mountain of viruses and junk files.

Miranda watched, wide-eyed, as Amelia’s elegant fingers flew over the keys. Lines of code flashed across the screen—none of it made any sense to Miranda—but in no time, her laptop was running like new.

“All done. It shouldn’t give you any more trouble,” Amelia said, handing it back.

Miranda’s eyes lit up, practically sparkling. “Amelia, you’re amazing! I thought you were a doctor—how do you know so much about computers?”

Amelia smiled. “Some medical research needs computer modeling, so I picked up programming in college. Ended up getting a few certifications along the way.”

Miranda pretended to swoon. “You learned programming in your spare time and got certified? Meanwhile, I just tried to squeeze in a few extra naps between classes. The gap between us is unreal.”

Amelia couldn’t help but laugh.

Just then, Miranda’s phone rang. She glanced at the screen, muttered an apology, and stepped out to take the call, leaving Amelia alone.

Sitting at the table, Amelia sipped her tea, the city sprawling out beneath the floor-to-ceiling windows. She let her eyes drift over the street, mind quietly churning through her plans.

If she could get her career back on track, she’d be able to cut financial ties with Clive for good. With his affair out in the open, divorce wouldn’t be a problem. The real battle would be getting custody of Timmy and Penny from the Salmerons.

Letting her kids—especially Penny—grow up in that family would only ruin them. Worse, it would pull them further and further away from her.

That was something Amelia simply couldn’t accept.

Losing her children would be like dying all over again.
