Chapter 114
Marco had an important meeting to attend and didn’t have time to accompany me inside.
On the way, my mind kept wandering. I used to think happiness was so far out of reach, but now I realized it was right beside me all along.
In a moment, I’d ask Mom if she wanted to hold a grandson or a granddaughter.
I planned to have a child within the next two years for Mom to help take care of. With a child around to keep her company, she wouldn’t feel so lonely.
I pushed open the door to the hospital room, but it was neat and tidy, not looking like anyone had been staying there. I quickly grabbed a passing nurse and asked, “Excuse me, where’s the patient who was in this room?”
The nurse peeked inside. “The patient in this room was discharged last night.“.
“That’s impossible,” I said, growing anxious at the news.
Yesterday, Mom had promised to stay in Potano City with me and never return to that awful place, Montellano. How could she have suddenly been discharged?
Unless… someone took her away.
Relying on my memory, I dialed a familiar number from years ago. As soon as it connected, I heard my father, Cain Rossi’s voice on the other end.
“Alia, I’ve already taken your mother back to Montellano. You don’t need to worry about her anymore. If you’d like, you can come home to visit. It’s been three years since I’ve seen you, and Dad misses you.”
Cain’s words didn’t seem inappropriate on the surface. Any father might say something like that to his daughter.
But I knew this was just Cain putting on a kind, fatherly facade. His real intention was to take Mom back as a way to threaten me.
I steadied my emotions, trying to remain calm as I spoke. “Where’s Mom? I want to talk to her.”
“Your mom?” Cain sighed before continuing, “She’s not in good health and isn’t able to talk to you right
now.”
“Let her speak to me,” I said, my hand trembling as I gripped the phone in worry.
I didn’t even dare to imagine what kind of harm Mom might suffer after being taken back by Cain.
The injuries on her body hadn’t healed yet, and the wounds on her heart were even deeper. She couldn’t withstand Cain’s torment any longer.

Chapter 114
Cain chuckled and said, “Your mother’s mental state isn’t good. She’s always rambling incoherently. To prevent any accidents, I’ve locked her in the storage shed in the backyard.”
He paused, then added, ‘You should remember that storage shed. Since it hasn’t been maintained for a long time, it’s dark and damp, full of rats and cockroaches.”
“Cain, do you even know what you’re doing? Imprisoning your wife is illegal, I roared, my anger boiling over as I attracted curious glances from passersby.
Cain laughed again. “You can call your father by his first name, so what’s wrong with me locking up my mentally unstable wife?”
“I don’t have a father like you. Let my mom talk to me now. I need to speak with her. Having a father like this felt like the greatest tragedy of my life.
A person can choose how to live their life, but they can’t choose their parents.
If I could choose, I’d only want my mother. I wouldn’t want a father who only sees his family as tools to manipulate.
“Alia, if you really miss your mother, come back and see her. The doors of the Rossi family are always open to you. Welcome home.” With that, Cain hung up the phone.
