Chapter 135
“Implement what we just discussed. I have some matters to attend to, Marco instructed. Then walked toward me.
“Please go ahead with your work. Don’t let people think you’re neglecting your duties
of a woman,” I said, feeling guilty for interrupting his work.
Tve finished what needed to be done,” Marco said, taking my hand firmly. “Let’s go have lunch together.”
My hand felt warm and comfortable in Marco’s grasp. I looked up at him with a smile: “Are you sure it won’t interfere with your work? What if the godfather finds out you’re slacking off during work hours? Will he dock your pay?”
“Work is never–ending,” Marco said, holding my cold hand and asking in a deep voice, “It’s so cold outside. Why didn’t you dress more warmly?”
“Girls like to look pretty. Wearing too many layers doesn’t look good when shopping,” I smiled at him playfully.
In truth, I had gone to meet the Castero family’s illegitimate son in professional attire and hadn’t bothered to return to the hotel to change afterward.
As I was speaking, Marco had already taken off his suit jacket and draped it over my shoulders.
“I’m no cold,” he said, now wearing only a white shirt, which surely wouldn’t be warm enough.
“Your hands are like ice, and you dare say you’re not cold,” he said in an absolutely domineering tone that left me unable to refuse.
looked at him with a smile: “Put your jacket back on and hold my hand. That way, I won’t be
rold
Just listen, he said.
Unconsciously, Marco half–embraced me, trying to share some of his warmth.
I leaned against him quietly, following his slowed pace.
Lost in conught, I looked up and saw a car careening toward us, seemingly out of control
I
without time to think, vely pushed Marco away with all my strength.

Chapter 135
BANG-
I felt a rush of wind, followed by a mountain–like shadow pressing down on me…
Suddenly, I understood the source of my unease today.
The car crashed into a nearby wall with a tremendous noise, creating a large hole in the wall.
I was flung aside by the impact of the car.
Everything happened so quickly–by the time Marco tried to save me, I had already been thrown onto a nearby flowerbed.
Marco watched helplessly, unable even to make a sound. The impact seemed to strike his heart, shattering his insides.
I lay on the green lawn, red blood pouring from the ghastly wound on my leg, falling onto the green grass–vibrant red like a blooming peony. But I was like withering reeds, swaying and collapsing.
Marco’s heart sank as he quickly ran to my side, lifting me into his arms and holding me gently: “Alia, don’t be afraid. I’ll take you to the hospital right away.”
Hearing Marco’s voice, the corner of my mouth twitched–whether from pain or from trying to force a smile to reassure Marco, I wasn’t sure.
I looked up at Marco and placed my cold fingers on his furrowed brow, gently smoothing it: “Don’t worry, I’m fine. It just hurts a little,”
How could I be fine after being hit by a car?
It hurt terribly. Each of my pain–contorted expressions was like a nail driven into Marco’s
heart.
For the first time, Marco gritted his teeth, his expression darkening with rising anger.
He took a deep breath, lifted me in his arms, and said sternly to Luca and Julio who had rushed over: “To the hospital, immediately.”
Having lost too much blood from my leg, no matter how strong I tried to be, I couldn’t hold on any longer. I passed out in Marco’s thick, warm embrace.
